In Elissa’s terms “mining for treasure” is essential in guiding the education process that reverses traditional teaching models. She believes that students have more to offer inside of them than what’s presented to them through traditional lecturing. Elissa gained insight into her instructional practice by parenting two Autistic students and “believing she could tap into them”. I’m personally inspired by Autistic parents because of their positive attitudes toward their children, which is refreshing in education. Elissa unwavering belief that her own children have unique greatness that has cultivated a math savant and musical genius. This process has transferred to a teaching practice that is passionate sincere for improving student and teacher outcomes.
