Kelly Steinke met a boy named Drew on the first day of school a number of years ago. She was a special education teacher and he was one of her new students. After introducing himself, Drew mentioned that he was dyslexic and that Kelly wasn’t going to be able to teach him to read. That was fine with Drew, he had a private tutor that helped him with that.

Later that year, Kelly’s twin daughters were having learning difficulties and had speech delays. Their teacher didn’t realize why the girls were struggling, but Kelly’s interaction with Drew earlier that year gave her a pretty good idea. She quickly realized that both of her daughters were dyslexic.

Kelly began studying alternate teaching methods to overcome the symptoms of dyslexia and eventually created Silver Moon Spelling Rules, a program designed to help those struggling with spelling. After a few years of private teaching, Kelly realized there was a real need for her services. With that, she left her teaching job and started READ Learning Educational Services.

In addition to private teaching and her Silver Moon Spelling Rules program, Kelly also offers dyslexia screening, consultations for parents, and professional development seminars.

From the READ Learning Educational Services Website:

Kelly Steinke, M.A. Ed., NBCT is the founder of READ Learning Educational Services, LLC. Kelly taught special education, primarily to students with learning disabilities for almost 20 years in the Midwest, East Coast, and Pacific Northwest. During this time she became a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in Exceptional Needs, earned a Master of Arts Degree in Education (Administration and Leadership), and founded her company, READ Learning Educational Services, LLC. For the past six years, Kelly has served the community as a dyslexia specialist. Kelly continues to fill this role through offering speaking engagements, private one-on-one reading and spelling interventions, educational consultations, and professional trainings on dyslexia, special education, and executive functioning.  Kelly also currently teaches as an adjunct faculty member at Marian University.
