In the Hulu series 'Little Fires Everywhere,' Kerry Washington co-stars opposite Reese Witherspoon as Mia Warren, a bohemian artist single mom with a mysterious past. Washington spoke with Terry Gross about how she drew on her own mother for the role, her 'Scandal' audition, and playing Anita Hill in 'Confirmation.'

Also, critic John Powers recommends Netflix's 'Unorthodox,' the Hulu series 'Baghdad Central,' and the novel 'Abigail' by Magda Szabo.
One of the few interviewers who can any celebrity relatable is a Terry Gross; I enjoyed her episode with Sarah Jessica Parker and how she explored Sarah’s passion for Ballet and how it influenced her acting/roles. Kerry Washington’s middle Class roots were Touched upon; She lived a comfortable life to which she is grateful with 2 educated parents who sent her to private schools. Kerry‘s exposure to political situations that we’re discussed rationally in her household is different than others who seemed victimized by social injustice . She listened, observed and was allowed To form an opinion just like the fact that both parents have different views; often antagonizing to each other. I was not planning to listen to this interview, but I’m glad that I did.
Terry and Kerry are great together. Each brought out the warmth in the other. This was a gem of an interview.
