Today's Talk: Why Open Source Firmware is Important by Jessie Frazelle
Jessie Frazelle is an American computer scientist specifically focused on the firmware development, operating systems, and virtualization. She is very knowledgable and enthusiastic about processor firmware in general and in this talk, which she held at GOTO Chicago 2019, she elaborates to us why such firmware should be open-source. Counterintuitively, the closer to the hardware the firmware gets, oftentimes, the less visible and secure the firmware also gets, which Jessie calls out to address and fix. Among working at big American IT companies such as Google, Microsoft, and GitHub, she also functioned as a technical consultant for HBO's Silicon Valley TV series.
