Doc Rotten from Horror News Radio and Jeff Mohr from Decades of Horror: The Classic Era are joined by Rafe Telsch and Vanessa Thompson.  Gruesome Magazine Podcast - Episode 015 Lowlife - Killing Joan - 4/20 Massacre   KILLING JOAN “This is a dismal trainwreck.” - Rafe “I thought to myself, I feel like I’m watching a cross between The Room and a Uwe Boll movie" - Vanessa “It seemed to me like they found a cheap, decent way to make the black smoke special effect and then built a movie around it.” - Jeff “It is abysmal. It falls apart on just about every level you can consider from cinematography to composition to dialogue to acting, unfortunately, to the direction." - Doc An enforcer for the mob enacts her revenge on those who wronged her. Director: Todd Bartoo Cast: Jamie Bernadette, Teo Celigo, Erik Aude   4/20 Massacre “You get some pretty good kills … you get some impending doom.” - Vanessa “My favorite character was the stoner girl played by Stacy Danger.” - Jeff “It does feel like a nice 80s slasher at the core. … it had that structure that you’re familiar with in those kinds of out in the woods slasher films and it delivered.” - Doc A group of five women goes camping in the woods to celebrate a friend's birthday over 4/20 weekend. But when they cross the turf of an illegal marijuana grow-operation they must struggle to survive the living nightmare. Director: Dylan Reynolds Cast: Jamie Bernadette, Vanessa Rose Parker, Stacey Danger   Lowlife “There are things about (Lowlife) I like better than Pulp Fiction. I’d have a hard time finding much wrong with this.” - Jeff “I really enjoyed watching this. It pulled me in pretty early on, with each jump to a new vignette giving new information, new experience, the new story really kept it compelling.” - Rafe “This movie is a classic, back alley gangster film with a darkly comedic twist to it.” - Vanessa “This film grabbed me from the get-go. Every time a new chapter started, I was amazed at how my perception of the previous chapter was changed.” - Doc The sordid lives of an addict, an ex-con, and a luchador collide when an organ harvesting caper goes very, very wrong. Director: Ryan Prows Cast: Niki Micheaux, Ricardo Adam Zarate, Jon Oswald

"Once you get into the meat of it - the hazing - and the things that take place after that, that’s where the tension really ramps up and the characters really stretch their legs, especially our three potential club members. We see some really strong acting from (Zack Weiner, Phillip Andre Botello, and Zachery Byrd) and some really strong character development." - Vanessa "It’s really well made; it looked really good and I didn’t see a weak spot in the acting anywhere. … It’s a well-told story." - Jeff "I really liked this film. I had a good time with it. … The environment that they find themselves in is presented in such a seductive way that they are all in until they realize that they shouldn’t be and it’s too late." - Doc Director: Daniel Robbins Cast: Zachery Byrd, Phillip Andre Botello, Aaron Dalla Villa Release: OPENING IN THEATERS AND VOD ON JANUARY 11TH from IFC MIDNIGHT Rust Creek An overachieving college student gets lost on her way to a job interview. Since this ruthless demon can possess multiple people at once, knowing who to trust is the key to survival.   "A.J. is so slimy. I have to give it to (Christopher Daftsios) as an actor. He portrayed that character really well - gross and slimy and really despicable." - Vanessa "I kind of got into the overall gist of the plot of what this demon was trying to do. … (but) it didn’t quite make sense. The story had a lot of depth to it. … I enjoyed it. The actors were all engaging, The cinematography was great and I loved the sets." - Jeff "The good thing about this movie is it sticks the landing. It really ends on a high note." - Doc Director: Sergio G. There is some beautiful lighting and (there are) some beautiful scenes and shots." - Vanessa "Jennifer Lauren Friedman is the artist for Adam’s paintings and I think she deserves credit for that because those were a key part of the movie and in this case, this was really good art. It really sold the whole story." - Jeff "There are moments here that I think really work especially as it gets toward the end and I do like the resolution quite a bit. I like the decisions they made." - Doc Director: John Burr Cast: Riley Egan, Elle Evans, Kate Mansi Release: Currently available online by DarkCoast and TriCoast
