In this episode of Half Size Me, Heather talks to Kathryn abouthow she found an unconventional solution to begin her binge free lifehow your primal brain may be the cause of your binge eatinghow extreme dieting leads to binge eating and how to begin your recoveryand much more!About Kathryn: "I'm Kathryn Hansen, and I was bulimic for 6 years - from 1999 until I recovered in 2005. At the end of 2010, I completed my book, Brain over Binge: Why I Was Bulimic, Why Conventional Therapy Didn't Work, and How I Recovered for Good.   The book has been a goal of mine since my worst days of bulimia when I couldn’t seem to find a way to stop binge eating and purging. I vowed that if I ever found a way to recover, I’d write about it in the hope of helping others struggling with the same horrible problem. After my recovery, I was convinced I had a powerful story to tell that could shed new light on eating disorders and provide a different path to recovery. Traditional therapy did not help me, and I know there are so many binge eaters who share my experience. From the moment I started writing, my mission has been to give hope, an alternative perspective, and a commonsense cure to those who are not able to recover using mainstream ideas. My recovery didn't involve a major transformation, and it doesn't involve constant maintence. I am completely free of binge eating, purging, and any type of disordered eating. I don't have to watch out for triggers, and I don’t have to follow meal plans or attend therapy. I no longer have any urges to binge, and I also believe I have zero possibilty of relapse. There isn't anything special about me. I don't cope better with life than others; I have my share of problems - big and small, physical and emotional; and I don't even eat perfectly! But, my bulimia is a distant memory. When I was in my darkest days of binge eating, I thought I could never completely recover. I thought I would have to deal wtih my eating disorder one-day-at-a-time for the rest of my life. But, I don't. I believe that if recovery was possible for me, it's possible for anyone.A little more about me, personally: I am 31 years old, and I am a full time stay-at-home mom. I have 4 kids age 6 and under (who often leave me rather overwhelmed and exhausted, but also overjoyed)."To read more about Kathryn click here.ResourcesBrain Over BingeAbout Half Size MeThe Half Size Me Show is a weekly podcast meant to inspire you and motivate you no matter where you are in your weight loss journey.
