Ezekiel Series #11
God in the Repair Business
Now, in the 36th chapter the word from God to Ezekiel begins to move away from discipline and move toward the good news of restoration. The change in sermon topic was huge.
Goal of discipline is restoration.
Eventual restoration was God's plan for Israel too.
Ezekiel 11:17 (NIV)
17 "Therefore say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will gather you from the nations and bring you back from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you back the land of Israel again.'
- Land being restored Ezekiel 36:8-11
- The people being restored Ezekiel 36:24-28
God's restoration of Israel to himself is a picture of our relationship with God. God chose to offer forgiveness to us because of what Jesus did on Calvary.
Prophecy of restoration fulfilled more than once:
- Under Ezra and Nehemiah when the Jews returned from the Babylonian captivity
- And again in 1948 when the nation we know today as Israel was born.
Restoration was the key and God gives Ezekiel a vision of dry bones in Ezekiel 37 to show him this.
Bones represented the people of Israel.
They were disheartened, discouraged and dry spiritually.
The infusion of the Spirit of God resulted in a renewed sense of God's presence and new refreshing spiritual power.
