We will discuss the nature of sleep dysfunction in cancer, its impact, and how it can be managed through integrative care. We approach this topic both from a research and clinical perspective.Dr. Sheila Garland is a registered Clinical Psychologist and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at MUN. She is cross-appointed to the Division of Oncology. Her research interests include sleep and cognitive impairment in breast and prostate cancer patients, how cancer affects young adults, and she was a co-investigator of a recent study comparing acupuncture and cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia in cancer patients.
Dr. Mehta is the Medical Director of the Integrative Medicine Program at Memorial Healthcare. He is trained in Integrative Medicine (University of Arizona) and also Board Certified in Sleep Medicine. His research interests focus on improving quality of life and he has also created an Integrative Cancer Survivorship Program.
