Huawei making waves with dramatic upgrades across multiple rangesHuawei’s product unveiling in Berlin was a grand success with 3 journalists plus myself in attendance from Ireland. We were there to witness the new arrivals into the Huawei family. It was a well-managed affair with performance advancements indicating to the marketplace that Huawei is actively competing for the hearts and wallets of the European consumer.Wednesday morning was well organised with William Tian, President of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group making the introductions. He gave a brief overview of the day’s agenda moving through the new smart office releases such as the Pixlab B5 multipurpose printer unit. He then moved onwards noting key points such as Windows 11 integration for MateBook notebooks and the Smart Office Control feature creating a single pane of glass for Huawei device management.Next up was Andreas Zimmer, Head of Product for Western Europe Consumer Business. He introduced the MateBook range starting with the MateBook 16S covering future-proofed features like the universal touch screen, i9 processor running at 5GHz, 4K support for external monitors and multiple ports with backwards compatibility for USB going all the way to Thunderbolt 4. The 16S also sports a powerful 84-watt battery that will serve this high-spec model.Next up was the MateBook D16, which has more innovation sewn into its full keyboard design. In addition to the number pad, this full keyboard format has hotkeys such as a fingerprint key, a camera key and more. Also of note is the multi-core processing power of 16 cores running Windows 11, which is reported by Huawei as opening a 1GB PowerPoint file in 2 seconds. At 1.7kg, the MateBook D16 makes for a lightweight delight in backpacks and laptop cases alike. We then moved on to the smaller MateBook D14 with lower specs when compared with the 16-inch range yet can still be considered high performing. The D14 is powered by the i7 processor with WiFi-6 connectivity and some shared features also found in its larger siblings. It also has 1080 HD inbuilt screen resolution with a very sharp definition rate that will satisfy a wide range of use cases.Bear in mind, that Huawei has built these models based on current industry practice when scaled. This means upgrading underlying features like RAM memory size will not be possible for these models. You need to consider your estimated use and order your specifications based on your use case plus one size up to your estimated needs. Level up your specs and you will not have to worry about running into hardware upgrade troubles. The event went on to cover some accessories like the attractive-looking 15.6-inch laptop backpack that fits the MateBook D16 indicating a high screen coverage ratio on the notebook. We then left the MateBook range and were introduced to the ‘Huawei Mobile Cloud PC Client service’. I found this service as a cloud engineer to be familiar in nature. It is been deployed to 30 countries from July 2022 and will provide data sync, data backup and more. There is nothing new in the service but integration with the Smart Office control panel on Huawei notebooks is a nice touch. Next up were monitor introductions with the MateView SE monitor at 1920px by 1080px, which can be considered excellent for high-definition viewing. This 23.8-inch monitor with 92% screen coverage is a neat addition along with the larger curved screen monitor making for a high-definition monitor set. It is adjustable not only in height but also in tilt. The customization features are very handy if you are using your workstation for different activities like coding and then internet browsing. The peripherals reappeared once again with the new Huawei self-adjusting DPI mouse and the powerful Wi-Fi Mesh 3 x3 home router pack running 3.3 Gigabytes (3,300 MB) and the Mesh 7 x2 router home pack running a whopping 6.6 Gigabytes of throughput. This is a huge leap in home office connectivity from my ...
