Jane Miller is the author of Healing Companions: Ordinary Dogs and Their Extraordinary Power to Transform Lives. She works as a licensed psychotherapist and clinical social worker in a private practice. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and biology at Oberlin College, and her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work at Case Western Reserve University. Miller maintains a serious interest in holistic healing methods; she is a Reiki and QiGong practitioner and she also teaches techniques for stress reduction to her clients and their service dogs. Miller educates people about the ethical, legal and practice criteria of working with Psychiatric Service Dogs. She has lectured about Psychiatric Service Dogs at places like The International Association of Animal Behavioral Consultants Conference, The Cleveland Clinic & MetroHealth Medical Centers’ Departments of Psychiatry & Psychology, The Cleveland Natural History Museum, and The Psychology of Health, Immunity & Disease Conference, and The National Association of Social Workers Conference, among many other dog training facilities, organizations, and schools.Jane has been approach by the VA hospital to present for their Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology Grand Rounds about allowing soldiers that have returned from combat that have post traumatic stress disorder to work with psychiatric service dogs and to speak for the Veteran’s Administrations PTSD Consortium. Miller has been on "Health Visions – Animals As Healers" on PBS to discuss the healing power of animals and she has also worked with Dr. Allen Schoen, an author and veterinarian to present a workshop with a focus on animals as healers at a National Conference for Medical Professionals.
