Maggie Dennison shares with us both external and internal journeys. In the 70’s, through a series of events, Maggie became a world traveler. For two years, she traveled the globe, meeting others and exploring the land. By happenstance, she reconnected with a person she’d met once before, who invited her to a conference. This led to Maggie meeting a spiritual teacher who has guided her life to this day. She talks about how she “just knew” she needed to connect with this person.

Q & A

Why is self love important in your personal life?

I’m a big believer that your outer world reflects your inner world, and you put out affects the world around you and what comes towards you. So the more I take care of me and value me, the more centered I am.

What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love?

I think the main thing is conditioning. I grew up in the back woods of Ireland, where girls were taught to be good girls, make things right, other people were more important than you.

Who is one person who has changed your life for the better?

There are two people that changed my life, first, my boss who gave me, when I went traveling, assurances that if I got stranded somewhere in the world, he would fly me home. Another boss led me to realize how strong and confident I really am, just by how he treated me, and talked about me to others.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Listen to myself.

What is a self care habit that you practice regularly?

That’s an easy one. Meditation, above everything else.

Can you share a resource, an app or a tool that we can use to build our selfcare practice.

There’s something I just came across yesterday, I go to Unity Church. They have “silent unity” where you can call in and have people pray with you live on the phone. They have developed an app called UPray. You can submit prayer requests, but they also have mediations on there. I am exploring it now. It’s very non-denominational.

What book are you reading right now?

My favorite books are crime novels. I am really into psychology, I really love digging into what things make people do what they do.

Do you have a favorite quote?

“Trust in God, but tie your camel up first.”

What is the one thing that you are most passionate about?

Helping my clients be better so they can be successful.
