A phenomenal show that appeals to 2 of the basest of human needs: to laugh and to learn cool facts about animals. I am a biologist who loves to listen to this during my commute to work, but I am certain that if I had heard this as a 7-year-old I would have been equally as obsessed. Specifics about the show that I love: the theme song is absurdly catchy, and getting it stuck in my head from ads was what made me listen to the show in the first place.Second off, the material is well-researched and well-cited. I love that they draw on a both academic and community science based resources, ranging from research articles to youtube videos. You learn a lot every episode, but it doesn't feel like they overload you with information. They share just enough info to make you want to go learn even more about their animals of choice.Maybe most importantly, the show is hilarious. The easy dynamic and friendly banter of the Weatherfords is incredibly well-suited to the podcast world, and I would enjoy listening to them even if the material wasn't so fascinating. All around, what a slam dunk of a show!
Just the Zoo of UsThank you so much Colin! This is such a beautiful review that really makes us happy! 💕💕💕
Excellent and educational show with fun hosts! I love the rating system and learning about all of the different creatures that populate this awesome planet.
I don't know how I'm just now reviewing this show! Just the Zoo of Us is one of the most wonderful shows out there. Ellen and Christian rate animals and tell us all the reasons we should love them. They really do their research before each episode and are a joy to listen to. It's a great show for anyone from kids to adults, and is perfect for families!
This is my new favorite podcast! I love animals, so hearing Christian and Ellen get excited about them is right in my wheelhouse. Factual and fun, I would recommend to anyone who enjoys wildlife. Discovered via social media, and super excited for every new episode :)
Great show! can't believe I hadn't rated it yet. The hosts are funny and have such a love for animals. The ratings are fun. Guests are mostly interesting too, Glad I found it.
Want a podcast on animals hosted by a couple that loves and rates them? This pod is for you. Ellen and Christian do the research on animals and bring you their best bits. I learned a lot from the blobfish episode. Poor thing looks normal in the deep ocean, but pull it up to the surface, it turns into a big mushy blob. Lovely pod with tons of animal facts. Great for listening with family.
Heard the sloth episode a while ago and we were hooked! Informative, fun, and real nice.
Christian and Ellen are lovely, smart people who really do their homework on the animals they review. If you're wanting some laughs while learning something cool I'd suggest picking this one up for sure!
Darling podcast! So cute and funny. I love the hosts and I love the animals they cover... even the awful animals.
Very fun and educational podcast where two animals are 'reviewed' per week. A lot of interesting animal facts!
A wonderful show about all creatures great and small with a fantastic couple to take you on the safari you've always wished you could enjoy!
Who doesn't like animals? Presented in a fun, semi-head-to-head format, the show makes learning fun. I play it on road trips for the kids, but it's my wife and I that wind up talking about what we learned more often than not.
This is one of my new favorite podcasts. This educational show is all about listening in as couple Christian and Ellen Weatherford review a different animal every episode. The show has a solid five stars on Apple Podcasts, with 67 ratings, and 38 written reviews and starts with each of them weighs the animal on a rating out of 10 on effectiveness, ingenuity, and aesthetic. The disclaimer at the beginning of the show lets you know they aren't animal professionals, but enthusiasts who hold the research of each animal as the most important aspect of the show. I think that is why their hilarious cute dynamic is so unexpectedly charming. I never would have thought this adorable couple from Jacksonville, Florida would become literally my favorite couple of any media. Their knowledge and love for nerdy things like anime and dnd is something I hadn't seen in a podcast that wasn't specifically about those topics. If you listen to the show in order you will pick up on some subtle mentions of their private life. It starts with just the two of them, follows in their pregnancy and then welcomes baby Finley into the world! I adore baby Finley who can occasionally be heard cooing in the background of some episodes. That is not all they are, either! Besides being well-researched, cute and funny they also have good radio voices and production quality. The podcast is made knowing you might listen with little ones, so it does not contain profanity. The episodes do sometimes mention things like reproduction and predatory habits. I really like how (maybe because they are not experts) the language they use is super accessible and easily understood. That way I'm not lost in all the technical terms. Their website is well done and includes transcripts, coloring pages, and a message/animal submission/guest form. The couple is super active on Twitter and also has this email you can use to contact them. So far, the show has 91 episodes, all about an hour in length and new ones come out weekly usually at the end of the week. They also have experts come in, usually on a biweekly basis to have a deeper conversation about that week’s animal. Expert guest episodes became the most common when the couple took a short break to spend with newly arrived baby Finley. Episodes can be found on all major platforms. The most popular episodes according to Owltail are 3: Praying Mantis & Giant Panda and 7: Asian Elephant & Immortal Jellyfish. My favorites were 70: American Bison & Giraffe-Necked Weevil and 1: American Alligator & Florida Manatee. Music is really well chosen and credited at the end of every episode. The show covers a ton of animals I never thought I would want to know anything about but hearing these two talk about them as if they were the coolest thing that is ever existed changed my mind. And I think it could do the same for you. Sweet and charming married couple talking about interesting animals in a fun and engaging way. You can tell how passionate and excited they are about their animal friends and it's infectious!
I grew up watching Animal Planet as a kid (obsessed), so this show really hits home for me! It's funny, while still educational about animals along the way. Both Ellen and Christian are hilarious, light-hearted characters while discussing our amazing natural world. Check it out, you won't regret it! PLUS who doesn't love a good play on words for the title of the show. They're both good friends of mine IRL and I cherish the fact that I was able to help them while starting out by creating the podcast cover art. It's always a pleasure collaborating! Keep doing amazing things, y'all!

Such a wonderful show that has taught me so much about wildlife. Great to sit down with your kids with and would be perfect for a school setting. Ellen and Christian are both such wonderful hosts.
This is a fun podcast with an equally silly pair of hosts who discuss the natural history of different species and rate their adaptations.
