In this episode of “Keen On”, Andrew is joined by Mike Mattison and Ernest Suarez, the co-authors of “Poetic Song Verse: Blues-Based Popular Music and Poetry”, to examine the development of a relatively new literary genre rooted in Blues music and dubbed by the authors as “poetic song verse.”

Dr. Ernest Suarez's main area of interest is American literature, particularly the literature of the American South, and his most recent work centers on how poetry, blues, and rock intersected to usher in a new era of verse composition in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

Mike Mattison is an American musician and vocalist of the Grammy Award-winning blues rock/soul group, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, as well as lead vocalist and co-founder of the blues rock trio Scrapomatic.
