The Blind Blogger – Maxwell Ivey pt 2
The Blind Blogger – Maxwell Ivey pt 2 Born into a family of carnival owners in Texas, USA, Maxwell Ivey lost his sight at age 12. Having a natural gusto for life, Max graduated college and became heavily involved in the Eagle Scouts. He also worked in the family business alongside brothers until his father succumbed to lung cancer. Faced with his own mortality, Max made some life-altering changes. He underwent gastric surgery and lost over 250 pounds. He started his own business, buying and selling amusement rides, and learned how to blog using software for visually-impaired people. Overcoming many obstacles, Max made a name for himself online and now shares his experiences on The Blind Blogger. Max’s favorite things entail teaching and helping others to achieve their goals. So in addition to his blogging page, he has his own podcast, “What’s Your Excuse” and he also has a personal coaching and branding business! And he is a published author with his book, “Leading You Out of Darkness Into the Light: A Blind Man’s Inspirational Guide to Success.”AMEN! All of this information is available at Maxwell’s website, www.theblindblogger.net You started off in the carnival business. Everyone sees the lights, the sounds, the clowns and everyone having a good time. But what is it like behind the scenes? It’s a hard life, correct? You lost your eyesight at age 12, I believe. Can you tell us what happened? How did you handle that experience, initially? We will get into what you are doing now in just a bit. Did your Faith help you through those times? And you are still involved in the carnival business, kind of “behind the scenes” in selling equipment, correct? What is involved with that? Ok, let’s shift gears now.  You’ve faced health issues over the years. I read that you lost over 250 pounds!  How did you do that? Let’s talk about your book, “Leading You Out of Darkness Into the Light: A Blind Man’s Inspirational Guide to Success.”  That was published in 2014. Tell us about your book… I briefly mentioned your consulting business. Let’s talk about that for a few minutes. You help others to build their brands. What is involved in that? You also appear on podcasts such as this one, correct? If someone is listening now and they are going through something… It may not be a loss of eye sight, but it is “something” big to them, what words of wisdom can you give to that person? What advice can you give them, if they are listening right now? Maxwell, if someone wanted to get in touch with you, to ask a question or maybe to have you do an interview such as this, how can they do that? How can someone get in touch with you? I’m going to be putting links to all of this, your book and podcast as well, down in the show notes. Folks, to quote Maxwell Ivey’s podcast name, “What’s Your Excuse?”  You’ve heard some of the things that Maxwell has gone through. But notice the key phrase here, “…has GONE through.” He is not “there.” He has “gone through.” He has moved on to greater things. We cannot pick and choose most of battles. We sometimes cannot understand WHY things have happened. I know, I’ve been through some things myself. But we can KNOW that God is always with us, leading us and guiding us. We just need to make ourselves available. Because whatever we are going through, God can use to inspire someone else that needs it as well. Maxwell, thank you for taking the time to visit with us today. I want you to come back on the program anytime you feel like you have something else to share! I encourage you to get in touch with Maxwell Ivey, get a copy of his books, and allow him to help you to answer the question, "What's Your Excuse?" All of this information is available at Maxwell’s website, www.theblindblogger.net Help me welcome to the program, Maxwell Ivey!  Maxwell, it is so good to talk to you, my friend!  We were at the same event, the Mid-Atlantic Podcast Conference with Joe Pardo about six weeks ago!  I have to say, your talk was riveting for sure. That’s why I wanted to get you on the podcast, to share your story with our audience. How have things been going since that conference? Ok, the first question I always ask is this. Other than that brief intro I read, tell us in your own words, “Who is Maxwell Ivey?” You started off in the carnival business. A House Without Holes – Denise Broadwater pt 2
A House Without Holes – Denise Broadwater pt 2 Denise Broadwater is a private practice counselor who began her career as an MST Family Therapist working with at risk youth and their families. For the past ten years, she has been practicing in the Charleston area as a general counselor but specializing in marriage counseling. Denise is called to engage and push against a flood of personalities. She is the author of the book, “A House Without Holes: One Marriage Journey in a Charleston Renovation.” As recent empty nesters, Denise and her husband Greg, purchased a dilapidated Charleston cottage in a “sketchy” part of town. They were able to purchase the house for less than the value of the lot. But they did not bargain on hidden complications. She had to face a remodeling project that included open dirt floors, a creepy bathroom and even wildlife in the kitchen. But as they worked the renovation project on their house, they also worked on the renovation of their life. This book is her story and she is here today to share it with us. The area you moved into was in a Historic district, correct? You said that the house was in a “sketchy” part of town. What made you decide to go to that area? Were there times when you were concerned for your safety in that type of neighborhood? Were there any instances when you felt like you were not welcomed there? Were you and your husband always seeing things “eye to eye” concerning the house? Was there a time when something happened that just gave you a sense of peace, even when the situation looked like everything was going against you? Denise, you help people everyday. Families, at risk youth, etc. Based upon what you have gone through – what God has brought you through – concerning this renovation project, what advice can you give to folks struggling in their relationships or marriage today? Your book, “A House with Holes,” it’s available through your website, of course. Is it also in bookstores or Amazon? If someone wanted to reach out to you, to ask a question or possibly to do an interview such as this, how can they do that? How can someone get in touch with you? Folks, you need to get a copy of this inspiring book by Denise Broadwater. “A House with Holes,” is one of those books that will inspire you to greater things. Greater things in life. Greater things in marriage. Greater things in your relationships, with friends, family, co-workers. You really need to understand what Denise is sharing with you.  She has opened up and shared some of the issues that plague just about every family. It just happened that God used this house renovation project to reveal Himself and His plans to Denise and her husband, Greg. She has shared these experiences, with you, in this book. Not as a journal of a renovation project. But as a way to experience God, His Love, His guidance, His plans, even in the midst of troubles. You need to get a copy of this book. In fact, as we are now entering the Christmas giving season (at the time of this recording), I would encourage you to buy two, three or more of Denise Broadwater’s book, “A House with Holes.” It would make a great gift for someone you know. It’s not “preachy” – it’s just a way you can minister to someone you love or care about without “thumping your Bible.” I encourage you to go to the links down below, order several of the books. Use the links below to get in touch with Denise. If you are going through something, she may be able to help. She has a blog on her website where she continues to share inspirational thoughts and things that happen in her life as well.  So click the links down below. Order your book or books and get in touch with Denise today. Denise, thank you for taking the time to come on the program today. And thank you for this great book. I know it will be a blessing to many people, for sure. Folks, that is all the time we have for today. For Denise Broadwater and myself,
