We celebrate the 25th anniversary, life and legacy of the Civil Rights Movement January 20, 2020, Honoring the latest and most magnificent Dr. Martin Luther King Jr,

Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birth name was Michael, not Martin.

Let me tell you how this story unfolds

Dr. King’s father changed his name from Michael King Sr, to Martin

Michael King Jr was only 5-years-old

Dr. King’s father changed his son’s name to Martin

And that is how his name bestowed

Michael King, Sr, was born December 19, 1899

Martin Luther King Jr was born on January 15, 1929

Martin Luther King, Jr.’s journey had just begun

Labeled a Black Messiah

He would die at the hands of an assassin smoking gun

I Am Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., became a movement

while our diverse youth held hands chanting;

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

His words still echo around the world today as our battle cry for freedom rings; I stood by the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, “The time is always right to do what is right.”

is the voice I kept hearing coming back to me, I felt conflicted as I thought about the black youth slain in the streets across America; Michael Brown Jr., Kajieme Powell, Carey Ball Jr, King Darren Seals,

Sandra Bland, Eric Gardner, Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, Vonderrit Meyers Jr., just to name a few.
