For the first time in our 280-show history, there will be no special guests. Host Dan J Kroll will go solo for the entire hour. Perhaps he’s taking this whole “Independence Day” theme a little too far. But don’t worry — he’ll be kept company by some of the greatest singers of our time.

This week, Kroll Call marks the Independence Day holiday with a special hour of music. Dan will be playing songs by artists who got their start as part of well-known groups but then broke off on their own to become successful solo artists. Think the Beatles, the Supremes, and even Destiny’s Child.

But the list of artists who went solo after being part of a successful group runs surprisingly long — so long that it is impossible to get to every one in the course of an hour-long show. So we hope listeners will embrace this week’s show as the start of a new, annual Kroll Call tradition — and if your favorite group-members-turned-solo-artists aren’t included this year, we’ll get them next time!
