Where would Seattle Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson like to go?  Florio says it's the Dallas Cowboys  FRISCO - The preposterous notions fueling many of the NFL Rumor Mill items - not to mention the sheer volume of them, especially as they regard the Dallas Cowboys - prevents us from researching the ideas, let alone writing about them.  But when a media person attaches his name to such a rumor? OK. We'll allow him some elbow room.  Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio is advancing the possibility that Dallas acquires the superstar quarterback in a blockbuster trade. Who says multi-billionaires have people who handle anything and everything they want?  Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, estimated by Forbes more than a year ago to be worth $8.5 billion, isn’t afraid to go buy his own wine. Not from a sommelier, but from some gas station.  A fan posted on Tuesday a photo with Jones at a 7-Eleven (free advertising) in Texas.  “Just met Jerry Jones at the gas station in Prosper,” the fan, wearing a Chief's hat and flip-flops, tweeted. “He even said he felt bad for [Patrick] Mahomes.”  This implied that the unverified photo was taken on Sunday. And while there’s a chance that it’s the product of some sort of mushroom-induced Photoshop project, it looks and feels real.  By the way, our own in-house sommelier thinks that Jones is holding in his right hand a bottle of Josh, a Cabernet Sauvignon. As wine sold at a 7-Eleven goes, Josh cab (free advertising) ain’t bad.

Should Dak take Less money because he's the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys???  Former NFL signal-caller Carson Palmer’s take on Dak Prescott is sure to infuriate Dallas Cowboys fans everywhere.   Once again this offseason, the big question surrounding the Dallas Cowboys will be if Jerry Jones will be able to offer Dak Prescott the contract he’s been waiting for. The star signal-caller has yet to finalize a contract extension, with the two sides not being able to meet halfway.  Click here for the full interview from 105.3 the fan https://omny.fm/shows/shan-and-rj/carson-palmer-3
Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb says he prefers to “stay in the shadows as of right now.”   Sure, his 935 receiving yards and five touchdowns this season place him more squarely in the limelight. But Lamb isn’t trying to hide on the field so much as he’s aiming to defer respectfully to members of the Cowboys organization regarding matters of contract negotiations … like, the protracted negotiation of a long-term deal with quarterback Dak Prescott.  On second thought, Lamb does have a few words on the matter.  “It’s no secret we want Dak back,” Lamb told USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday. “I trust that the guys in the office are definitely going to make the right decision. They know how much Dak means to us and how much we lean on him.  “I cannot wait to have him back.”  Jori Epstein USA TODAY https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/cowboys/2021/02/04/dak-prescott-cowboys-contract-negotiations-ceedee-lamb-wants-him-back/4383939001/
A Plano startup has wrapped up a funding round that comes with some well-known current and former Dallas Cowboys.  OxeFit, developing a connected workout service that employs modern tech tools, has closed on an A round for $12.5 million that was led by Lydia Partners, according to a statement.  Dak Prescott, Cowboys quarterback, participated in the oversubscribed funding effort — along with former team members Jason Witten and Dez Bryant. Demaryius Thomas, formerly of the Denver Broncos, and Cowboys receiver Blake Jarwin joined as well.  OxeFit is developing a workout system that using robotics and artificial intelligence with strength training. It’s a combination of physical equipment and software that's connected via networks. The effort comes amid the rising popularity of Peloton, Mirror and others that are gaining traction in the market.  “As a professional athlete currently rehabbing from a significant injury, I see the unbelievable opportunity OxeFit affords athletes and their physicians and trainers to cater activities to their specific needs,” Prescott said in the statement. “I believe OxeFit will change how athletes build strength and rehab from injuries.”  OxeFit, which is set to launch its fitness equipment this year, is targeting elite athletes and consumers from the convenience of their homes – or at fitness clubs and rehabilitation centers.  The company’s tech can track “performance and muscle metrics through motion, providing advanced coaching” on the platform, the website said.  “Having the support of investors who understand and can live out our mission is important to us and our commitment to providing a holistic, smarter experience to achieve wellness,” said Mohammed “Rab” Shanableh, co-founder and CEO, in the statement.  The round of funding is being used for product development of the OxeFit systems, as well as continuing to expand the team and develop the go-to-market strategy.  Credit Article  https://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/news/2021/02/03/dak-prescott-dallas-startup.html Jimmy Johnson Interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnyDUXjgvng

Jason Witten is again calling it quits.  The tight end told ESPN's Todd Archer on Wednesday he will sign a one-day contract with the Dallas Cowboys when his contract with the Raiders expires in March and will retire as a Cowboy.  "A coach once told me, 'The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example,'" Witten told Archer. "As I hang it up, I walk away knowing that for 17 seasons I gave it my absolute all. I am proud of my accomplishments as a football player on the field and the example I tried to set off of it. Football is a great game that has taught me many valuable lessons, and I look forward to passing on that knowledge to the next generation."  Witten retired in 2018 and transitioned to the broadcast booth, where he served as a color commentator for ESPN's Monday Night Football for one season. He returned to the NFL in 2019 with the Cowboys before signing a one-year deal with the Raiders in 2020, catching 13 passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games.  Witten spent all but his final season with the Cowboys, catching 1,215 passes for 12,977 yards and 72 scores while wearing the star on his helmet. He'll end his career in Dallas, and is likely to receive a call to Canton as a future member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.   https://www.nfl.com/news/jason-witten-retiring-after-17-year-career-cowboys-raiders-tight-end For Video Click here https://youtu.be/Zk0RJAi0hzc
The window has re-opened for a long-term deal between the Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott. A long-term deal between player and team hasn’t happened.  Here’s what has happened: A long-term deal between Prescott and Anheuser-Busch.  Via Terry Lefton of Sports Business Journal, the folks behind brands like Budweiser, Bud Light, and Bud Light Seltzer have signed Prescott to a multi-year contract.  Said an unnamed source with knowledge of the deal to Lefton of Prescott’s latest sponsorship arrangement: “He’s signing a long-term deal with America’s beer before he signs one with America’s Team.”  Making the relationship more significant is the fact that the Cowboys have a 41-year exclusive sponsorship arrangement with Molson Coors.  The Cowboys continue to insist that they’ll keep Prescott on the team. He holds even more cards than he did a year ago, given that it will cost the Cowboys $37.4 million to use the franchise tag on Prescott again, in cash and cap space. For 2022, the franchise-tag number for Prescott would spike to $53.856 million.  So, basically, there’s no reason for Prescott to ask for anything less than $90 million fully guaranteed over the first two years of the deal.   https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/01/26/dak-prescott-gets-a-long-term-deal-with-anheuser-busch/ Click here for the video: https://youtu.be/Wm8l8pYHyVk
Consider this: The Dallas Cowboys send WR Michael Gallup and the 10th overall pick in the draft, for CB Stephon Gilmore and New England’s 15th pick. Sound crazy? Allow me to make the case for this mutually beneficial swap…  The Dallas Cowboys are in desperate need of finding a starting cornerback this offseason. Free agency is the quickest way to fill the post, but it’s also the most expensive way. And the NFL Draft is the cheapest way, it comes with one or two seasons of ugly growing pains (CB is a tough transition to the pros).  The trade market, on the other hand, can provide both instant relief and be fairly affordable.  The Dallas Cowboys could package draft position and WR Michael Gallup to get CB Stephone Gilmore. Stephon Gilmore’s time in New England appears to be coming to an end. The perennial All-Pro is entering the last year on his deal, and with the Patriots retooling, it seems unlikely the 30-year-old cornerback will be coming back.  Similarly, Michael Gallup’s time in Dallas seems to enter its final act as well. The Dallas Cowboys are loaded at receiver and given all the needs elsewhere on the roster, they’ll have a hard time justifying a new contract for a luxury piece like Gallup.   https://sportdfw.com/2021/01/24/dallas-cowboys-trade-wr-michael-gallup-cb-stephon-gilmore Click here for the video: https://youtu.be/XOHGNHuGfqg
The 2021 offseason is going to be hard to manage with a projected lower salary cap due to revenue losses during the pandemic. In addition to a reduced pool of funds to work with, the Dallas Cowboys will also be carrying $9 million in “dead money” against its cap from some of their 2020 roster moves.  This $9 million mostly comes from the untimely retirement of Center Travis Frederick last March. With $11 million in dead money remaining on Frederick’s contract, Dallas chose to split that over two seasons by delaying his official removal from the team until after June 1st.  Even when a player voluntarily retires, as opposed to being released, the effect on the salary cap is the same as if he were cut.  Travis Frederick announced in March he would retire. For salary cap reasons, Cowboys waited until after June 1 to process the transaction. Retirement could have created $11.04M in dead money vs. 2020 cap. Instead, he’ll count $4.975M this year and $6.065M in 2021. -https://twitter.com/GehlkenNFL Click here for the video: https://youtu.be/gmA-AG-_jX4
