This week, we talk about From Exile - a quarantine re-imagining of The Menzingers' 2019 record Hello Exile. But this isn't just another acoustic pop-punk record. These tracks were stripped down, re-arranged, and put back together. We think some of the tracks were better in their original form, but we also think some of them shine beautifully here. But really, it's up to you to decide what you think!Today (10/23/2020) is the last day to enter our $100 Bandcamp gift card giveaway! If you haven't yet, enter here. After that, we recommend you head over to The Menzingers' Bandcamp page and pick up a copy of From Exile. And for another perspective, check out the Kerrang article we quoted.Don't forget to check out the Night Shift Radio merch store at nsrad.io/merch!
We're joined this week by Andy from Gainsville rock band Dikembe, to chat about their new record Muck. This record takes inspiration from a bunch of amazing bands, and we also chat with Andy about a major personal inspiration - the late Eddie Van Halen. We already know COVID has made bands get creative, but Dikembe takes it to a whole new level (get it?) by releasing their own mobile game. Dikembe is all about community involvement, and 20% of the proceeds from Bandcamp sales of Muck go to GRACE Marketplace. Andy recommends finding ways to get involved locally as well.Don't forget to enter our giveaway for a $100 Bandcamp gift card here.
Philadelphia power-pop quartet Riverby dropped their debut record Smart Mouth this year, with plans for a big release show in May. As we all know now, 2020 says "fuck your plans" to us all, but the silver lining is we still get to listen to this dope record & support the band digitally. We may disagree on what the best song on this record is, but there's no arguing that this record bangs. You can pick up Smart Mouth on the Riverby Bancamp page, with all proceeds going to the split bail fund by ACT Blue. While you're there, grab one of their rad Mountain Dew inspired t-shirts.Don't forget to enter our $100 Bandcamp gift card giveaway: https://gleam.io/GMKgq/left-of-the-dial-bandcamp
This week's special guest is Stephen Roessner of Small Signals - which means we've now spoken to 2/4 Steves of the Four-Steves Tour! For the most recent Bandcamp Friday, Stephen wanted to make a quarantine tribute to local Rochester, NY bands he loves, and Recover is the glorious result. Not only is he shining a spotlight on some incredible bands, all proceeds from the sale that day went to Girls Rock Rochester, which is pretty fuckin' rad. We also announced that we'll be giving away a Bandcamp gift card this month, so make sure you follow @leftofthedialpc on Twitter and keep listening for details!Meanwhile, you can pick up Recover, or any of Stephen's other rad music, on the Small Signals Bandcamp page. While you're there, check out the bands that are featured on this EP, they're all worth your ear-time I promise. And just because we talked about it, here's that cover Caleb and his brother Joshua did of Jimmy Eat World's "Table For Glasses" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHTHV9goXWk
We're keeping it chill this week, with a new acoustic EP called Unplugged, by State Champs. If you're asking yourself "State Champs of what?" well then you should probably head on over to their website where they have just the shirt for you. You can also check out the State Champs merch store here. And most importantly - if you haven't done so already, please head on over to vote.org and make sure you're registered to vote!
This week we talk the sarcastically named Paradise, by Cold Years. This record hits hard with themes of loss, politics, and hard-drinking. We discuss the significance of the number 62, how Caleb thinks this is a nearly perfect record, and the one tiny sound that almost ruined the whole thing - yeah, you're gonna hear it now too. Sorry.Since we referenced music videos for each track we discussed, here's some links for ya!62Night Like ThisLife With a ViewBreathe Too Far GoneBuy Paradise on Bandcamp: https://coldyears.bandcamp.com/album/paradiseRead the Kerrang article we reference: https://www.kerrang.com/the-news/cold-years-announce-debut-album-paradise/

When we recorded this episode a few weeks ago, this record was called Wild. Now, it's called Wildfires and it has a brand new track. So... bonus! Anyway, we talk about this brand new EP from Acceptance, the Sony rootkit malware scandal, stairways to nowhere, and how dope Saturn is.Check out the powerful & relevant video for Cold Air: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfLGA25YNtM&feature=youtu.beRead the interview with Jason that we mention: https://www.behindthesetlist.com/band-named-acceptance/
The Appleseed Cast is back with a brand new record - The Fleeting Light of Impermanence. Actually, this record came out last year, and if you haven't heard it yet you're wrong and we feel bad for you. Put it on in the background of a crisp, late-summer day, and re-live an old breakup. Or not, we're not here to tell you what to do.TAS on Bandcamp - https://theappleseedcast.bandcamp.com/musicOfficial website - https://greenkansas.wixsite.com/theappleseedcastPitchfork review we mention - https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/the-appleseed-cast-the-fleeting-light-of-impermanence/An album by album walkthrough with Chris Crisci - https://www.kerrang.com/features/the-appleseed-cast-album-by-album-with-chris-crisci/
