We know that supercapacitors cannot replace lithium-ion batteries. Their potential rather lies in the combination with batteries. To help out in those situations, where the batteries’ performance is not sufficient. Delegating the sharp and powerful charge-discharge situations to the super cap, reduces the stress for the battery and therefore increases its lifetime. How often does a battery really have to deal with short and powerful charge- and discharge situations?
