What comes to mind when u picture people in the Bible? Archaic, unrelatable stories? perfection beyond reach? When u take a look at the characters in the Bible and emerse yourself in their story, you see people. People like us. Flawed. Headstrong. Humble. Caring. Awful. Saved.  Transformed. People.  Inspiration. Moses. David. Daniel. Peter.  But how about Queen Vashti, Ruth, the Shulamite Woman, Aquila, Priscilla....Jonah...  God's Word is deep and rich and full of so many everyday extraordinary characters. In episodes 11-19, we asked the question "What character in the Bible do you most admire or relate to?"  Here is an audio collage of the answer to that question. Praying that we all find a new joy, as we revisit the characters in the Bible that we sometimes misjudge or overlook.  And our Lord Jesus...His is the greatest story of all. http://lettersfromhomepodcast.com/for any questions lfhpodcast@gmail.comContributors to this episode:Letters From Home previous guests (& their episodes) in order of appearance: Ep. 12-Blake Beard "From Bully To Blessing" https://www.buzzsprout.com/905818/stats/episodes/2887729-from-bully-to-blessing-blake-beard-age-19 Ep. 13-Katherine Mayor "Emergency Foster Mom" https://www.buzzsprout.com/905818/episodes/2887441-emergency-foster-mom-katherine-mayor Ep. 14-Mischelle Saunders-Gottsch "Freedom. When I think of who I am, before I think of being a Mom of 8,  a wife,  a daughter, a Grammy, a friend, a neighbor, I think first of being a child of God.  Being a child of God, has changed me, in all of the good ways.  And I am grateful.  Over the last episodes of Letters From Home, I have asked each guest, the question, "what does being a child of God mean to you?" I trust you will be encouraged by every single voice, and heart. -love, MegJohn 1:12-"But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God."Audio Clips in this episode:Cliff Ravenscraft Ep. 39, TJ McKnight EP. 38, Michael McDonald Ep. 37, Eric Nevins Ep. 35, Chris Staron Ep. 34, Glori Winders Ep. 33, Thomas Stewart Ep. 32, Dave Ebert Ep. 31, Holland Webb Ep. 29, and Josiah Glesener Ep.1.------------------------------------------For more inspiring stories:https://lettersfromhomepodcast.com/*FREE APP* Letters From Home Podcast has its own downloadable app., with all of our episodes in one easy place.  Search our podcast name in the Apple APP store, and in the Google Play store. As a young boy, T.J. knew he was called to preach. His mother, his dreams, and even a grocery store clerk, spoke these words into his ears.  And he ran from this calling, like Jonah. For a season.  Through the love of a once-in-a-lifetime friendship, and the gentle love of a Mother, God moved in his heart and life so much, that he is no longer running from, but running to his calling.  And it is a beautiful thing to behold.  One Faith. This episode is dedicated to the memory of his beautiful Mama, Yvette McKnight, his loving friend, Maurel Domingo, and his loving wife, kids, family, and church family.  Eph. 4:5- "One Lord, one faith one baptism."website: https://linktr.ee/onefaith?fbclid=IwAR2i3gYZwOzgpxQ4zEtg6BimmFTFcl8NKkMHSnbAEGQSD-6DPK4_8czRBXYemail:tlmcknight.jr@gmail.comTopics Shared:Happy childhoodHolt Elementary Durham, N.C. Sometimes it takes a rough childhood, and the longing of  a young boy to find a father figure, to inform his global focus and mindset.   Changed by the love of his Father, he grows up to be a world changer, albeit imperfect. Michael McDonald  is currently the Bible Project Director of Global Focus and Strategic Relationships in Portland, Oregon. His story to get there is rare, and is a beautiful global adventure we are invited on. It is so easy for our homes to be self-focused and American-focused. His perspective will change you.Matthew 5:14-"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden." We worked in Ughanda Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Nepal, India, different ministries in each of those places. So we find incredible local leaders that have a passion for one of those types of things and then help create some infrastructure and do that." (with Bob Goff)"I have been part of Bible Project since the beginning, because it has been friends that were working on this project. I saw the first two videos that came out in 2014, and just thought 'wow, these are going to be an incredible resource for people.' I was thinking of them globally right away, just because I worked with so many pastors and teachers in other countries that are starving for good Bible resources, and thought these would be a great asset, especially because they are free, and they are so well done.""The reality is Christianity isn't a western religion. It was a Middle Eastern religion that is coming out of Israel. A life on the run. From the law.  With his once carefree but now troubled Mom,  the remnants of his semi-idyllic remote hippie childhood... faded into a dark season for the whole family. At only 12, Kipp had already experienced 2 lifetimes of pain.   He takes us on his journey... of life... of processing his childhood..  of a life-changing divine encounter... and profound moments.   All of this led him down the  path of healing, to the remarkable albeit imperfect place he is now in his life and in his heart, grounded in faith, and beloved by God.Kipp is the cohost for the Mountain & Valley Podcast.  Episode 24 is Kipp's story, the first in our two part series "Mountain & Valley Podcast"https://lettersfromhomepodcast.com/podcast/grounded-beloved-kipp-wilkinson-mountain-valley-podcast-pt-1/Here are the links to the Mountain & Valley Podcast, where so many wonderful God stories are told:On Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/mountain-valley-podcast/id1453868341 On Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/anchor-podcasts/mountain-valley-podcastOn Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6J7kVobD8rtPwbUbDau0vvOn iHeartRadio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-mountain-valley-podcast-31109108/The Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-8255& Website: https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/------------------------------------------For more inspiring stories:https://lettersfromhomepodcast.com/To suggest a story that must be told, yours or someone else’s, let’s chat. Beautifully made. We hear that. Many of us know that.  But just repeating that doesn't get us there in our thinking and in our self-talk.  Ryann shares with us her story of getting there, to a place where she knows she is soooo loved by her heavenly Father, and uniquely beautiful in His sight.  On her journey of getting there, she walked through a difficult season, including postpartum depression, suicidal thoughts and unhealthy feelings of unworthiness. Her loving family and friends walked her through that  season, and she has come out on the other side. As we hear her gentle spirit and faith inviting us into her life, I pray we also get to that place of knowing we too are beautifully made.Psalm 139:13–14[13] For you formed my inward parts;you knitted me together in my mother's womb.[14] I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.Wonderful are your works;my soul knows it very well. How many of us can say the worst time in our lives was the best time. Dominique Young can.  For her, the joys of motherhood unexpectedly turned into a crucible of pain...and misdiagnosis. Thankfully, her story doesn't end there. God took her by the hand to walk through this crucible... and with the love of her family to a place where she hears the birds chirping... for the first time. Job 23:10-"But He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold." Her season of hidden struggle and affliction also led her to a beautiful ministry, one which any Mama can participate in. Dominique Young is the founder of Faith Mamas, https://faithmamas.org/.  This is a beautiful ministry of Mama love and prayer. When tragedy comes, it affects everything.  But through tragedy, hope can bloom.  In the Bible Hebrews 6:19 says "This hope we have as an anchor of the soul..."   Heidi's story is about the hope that has anchored her life. She takes us through her darkest...and hardest days... and in every step you see her faith in her ever present Lord...who is holding her up...guiding her path...through  valleys and leading her to beautiful but rocky pastures...pastures of forgiveness...healing...and ultimately, pleasant gardens. Truly our God is the great designer of the landscape of our lives.Heidi said these verses comfort her.  Psalm 71:20-21"You who have made me see many troubles and calamities will revive me again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again. Enter the world of fostering through Katherine's heart, and home. She shares with us their road to readiness, their very first call, and the highlights and bumps in their faith and fostering journey. Can u imagine what it would be like to have 29 kids over the years, stay in your home, for a time, as they each transition in and out of difficult situations? Her story will give u a taste of what that is like, including many 'extras' to work through along the way -courts, addictions, health care needs, social and case workers, sibling and parental involvement.   Worth it all!   Foster Care Support: https://hopeforchildrenfoundation.org/Emergency Foster Care Resources: https://adoption.org/emergency-foster-care-work ------------------------------------------For more inspiring stories:https://lettersfromhomepodcast.com/To suggest a story that must be told, yours or someone else’s, let’s chat. Bearded young men trecking through Australia and Papa New Guinea, sharing Jesus, yep.  That is a big part of Blake's story. He is 19, and has been through so much.  At times, tender, at times, insensitive.  At times, a bully, at times, bullied.  At times, living his best life, at times, failing. At times, leaning in dependence on God, at times, feeling distant. His story is relatable and raw, and one that ultimately seeks to glorify God.Currently, Blake serves with the youth ministry at Alderwood Community Church in Lynnwood, Washington https://alderwood.cc/.For bullying help: https://www.nationalsafeplace.org/bullyingConcussion Info: https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/basics/concussion_recovery.html------------------------------------------For more inspiring stories:https://lettersfromhomepodcast.com/To suggest a story that must be told, yours or someone else’s, let’s chat. Sadness. Pain. Joy. Life. Love. Hope. What gets me excited as i go through this life is... where i am going after...and bringing others to that hope. HEAVEN. Have u ever stopped to think much about what this might be like.  As you listen, you will hear many voices, from toddlers, to friends in their 90's share their answer to the question, "what are you most looking forward to about heaven?" Enjoy.  At the end of this episode, my family and i put together a tribute to our Mom, Jeanne, who passed away in April,  2019. She was definitely not a cookie cutter Mom, which you will perceive instantly. You will hear the voices of many of her 4 siblings, 5 children, 17 grand-children and 4 great-grandchildren offering precious thoughts and stories. At the end of the episode, her loving husband of 25 years, Conan...shares their very unique love story. Also, you can hear the beautiful song “Here I Am, Lord” by Daniel L. Special needs. What thought or feeling does that evoke? For some, this term permeates the fabric of their lives and homes. It is a life changer...for all involved...many ups and many downs. Have you had any near death experiences?  Did they impact or rock your world...how did you make sense of it...? Brent had several such experiences. Combine that  with the difficulty of losing a college football teammate to suicide...and his inability to make sense of it...or to move forward with his own life.  His world  was completely rocked...which lead to soul searching, and a crazy transformative encounter, on a bridge with blinding light. Brent and his wife Becky love Jesus and live in Edmonds, Wa.  They have been a huge part of the Shorecrest High School community for more than 20 years, where he is a beloved coach and teacher. As a changed man, he seeks daily to pay it forward, and be a light to those around him. ------------------------------------------For more inspiring stories:https://lettersfromhomepodcast.com/To suggest a story that must be told, yours or someone else’s, let’s chat.
