Diving into the lives of "everyday" people and their real life experiences. Learn from their challenges, goals, failures, ability to overcome obstacles and how they grind through life and carve their own path. This podcast is not all about martial arts, even though we will speak with many Black Belts, it is however designed use the martial arts journey as a parallel comparison with life’s journey. Black Belts don’t know everything. They still have to fail, learn, grow and constantly set new goals. Each new beginning and goal is like putting your white belt back on. The same is true for life. You start something new not knowing anything (white belt) and you slowly gain skills and experience belt by belt until you have a solid foundation (Black Belt). Like life however, the journey continues. This is my chance to highlight the many amazing people in life that are out there killing it and living their life as a black belt. I hope their stories insprire you as much as they do me. Episode #38 - Dr. John DeWitt
Dr. DeWitt is a Vanderbilt University graduate who earned a full athletic scholarship after his first semester. He went on to become the starting defensive end for the next four years and was awarded The Wade Looney Award for outstanding work ethic. He continued his football career with the NFL Houston Oilers, NFL Europe Champion Scottish Claymores, Montreal Alouettes of the CFL, San Francisco Demons of the XFL, and several teams in the AFL including three seasons with the LA Avengers. After retiring from football, Dr. DeWitt earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Los Angeles Chiropractic College. His ultimate goal is to have a clinic where those suffering with PTSD, CTE and Concussions can come to get treatment via nutritional advice, mental health counseling and chiropractic care as well as a place for the families of those suffering to get the assistance they need as well. He has authored several, best-selling books on a variety of topics including Goal Setting, Golf, Concussions and CTE and a three-part series on Natural Vision Correction. Lorraine Reguly is an author and English teacher who is now a freelance editor and entrepreneur. Her life journey is motivational and inspirational. Lorraine’s book, From Nope to Hope, is designed to help anyone who wishes to lead a happier life. She was raped at 14 years old, got into drugs, earned money through prostitution and has had suicidal thoughts for years. Alison Donaghey was a single mom on welfare when she met a guy who relapsed into drug addition.   After they moved in together, his addition to drugs and alcohol resurfaced and he died 6 years later. She was on welfare and didn’t know what to do so she started her own house painting business. She now has a great life, her son is taking over the business and she has another business called "Domino Thinking" where she challenges people to think about what they think about. She is the best-selling author of "Think Opposite: Using the Domino Effect to Change Your Business, Change the World." Now available on Amazon. Allison believes that when we own that our lives are the way they are because of the choices we make, we can reconnect with our own inherent self worth and no longer have to be victims to others.  Alison is open and candid about a lot of significant moments in her life that helped shape her into the person she is today.  Her advice is both real and impactful.
