Ever since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a stark rise in anti-Asian hate incidents. Specifically, the non-profit social organization Stop AAPI Hate has tracked 3795 reports of anti-Asian verbal and physical attacks between March 2020 and February 2021. But anti-Asian racism or racism itself is nothing new. In this episode, we seek to investigate the origins of racially motivated discrimination and how to build allyship and community in the midst of a difficult but critical moment for minorities. In a candid conversation, we speak with Doni Aldine, editor-in-chief at the Culturs Magazine and Kathleen Hou, beauty director at The Cut who penned the beautiful and poignant piece Swallowing Bitterness about what we can do to promote diversity and inclusion (This episode was recorded on March 20).If you like this episode, please subscribe to the Loud Slurp podcast on Apple Podcasts and rate us.
