Life is fragile and can change in an instant. How a person faces that challenge and responds to their darkest moments gives a true measure of their character.
In 2007, Claire Lomas was involved in a horse-riding accident. That split second changed her life forever. Lying in a hospital bed, Claire was told she would never walk again. In that moment she believed her life was over. But, despite the difficult and embarrassing moments her injury caused, Claire began to take back control of her body and her life.
Just five years after her accident, Claire completed the London Marathon in a robotic suit. She managed to walk 26.2 miles despite not being able to feel the ground beneath her. She has also learned to ski and is going full throttle into her next challenge, riding motorbikes!
Claire talks to me about how she turned her situation around and, surprisingly, how she wouldn’t go back to the time before her devastating injury.
This is the ultimate story of courage, belief and perseverance. As the Dalai Lama said, ‘Whenever there is a challenge, there is also an opportunity to face it, to demonstrate and develop our will and determination’.
