RATING
This is my favorite podcast I have ever listened to. I really enjoyed how everything was connected. I cried during the whole next to last episode. Really emotional to me as a mother.
Ghost story doesn't even start to cover what this one is, my suggestion is to give it a try even if normally is not your genre. Beautifully done, one of my favourite audio drama ever.
Really intriguing mystery that I wanted to know more about with each episode.
Very interesting podcast thatasterfully transitions genres and intertwines different character's perspectives. One of the best lore reveals that I have encountered so far.
This is a masterful twist on the "recording" trope so often used in audio fiction, modified to match the technology of each century represented. And the take on ghosts... I just love this!
Really great story. The voice acting is amazing. Mirrors is an excellent, top-tier podcast!
I loved this intriguing story. Awesome audio, the narrators are wonderful, and the story is fantastic.
I love this podcast. I was still pretty new to audio dramas, and THIS really opened my eyes to a whole new world. I love the writing, the voice acting, everything.
Starts as a ghost story but steadily evolves into a very compelling sci-fi, Mirrors is a limited series about three women across different times and places connected through strange sightings. While things start spooky they don't stay that way for long; however, that’s not a knock against it as some pretty wonderous sci-fi emerges. There were a lot of unexpected turns as the mystery unraveled, and I had multiple theories as the story progressed and appreciated we got answers at good a pace while more clues and questions dropped. Able to funnel a big story and a relatively large list of characters through just three narrators and a few guest stars, Mirrors makes the most of its low-key sound design and more limited voice cast, offering up intriguing ideas, heartfelt themes and beautiful character development balanced on the back of a smart premise and a well-woven and well-paced plot.
An incredible, masterful piece of storytelling.
Intriguing - will continue to follow.
This was EXACTLY what I was looking for in a sci-fi supernatural podcast. A sprinkle of everything, a plot that never gets messy, suspense that stays fresh, and excellent writing! This was short and to the point, no bullshit. Truly a hidden gem.
One of the most inventive and compelling audio dramas I've heard. Three protagonists, three disparate time periods, all braided together into an immensely satisfying and memorable plot.
I really liked Spines, but when I listened to this, it was on a whole different level. The connections each character has to one another are fluid; the pacing is immaculate. While it is a fiction story, it has real-life messages so powerful it makes you really ponder. The strong characters with compelling character arcs brought the sci-fi to earth in a really nice way. I loved that the characters gave real opinions and aren't just toys to the plot. They have opinions and motives of their own. Also, the diversity of the characters is something that the majority of media lacks. Really amazing audio drama- I can't recommend it more.
I'm so glad I finally gave Mirrors a try! First off the production, voice acting, and story are all are exceptional! I'm not the most interested in ghost stories so I was hesitant at first, but it kept popping up on suggestion lists along with other podcasts I've loved so I started listening. It's hard to say too much without spoilers, so I'll just say it's a beautiful multi generational story about the unknown, doing the right thing even when it's the toughest, persevering through adversity, hope, and love. It starts out a little slow, but it really takes off and the ending was phenomenal! I cried through multiple episodes in the last season. I'm adding this to my top 8 and it will be one I listen to again and again. The next podcast I listen to will have a hard job living up to Mirrors!
Starts off with a horror-mystery vibe, but settles into sci-fi mystery by the end of the first season. The story has a good balance between revealing information and leaving enough clues and questions to keep the listener invested. The plot gets complex at points but is easy to follow. Handles themes of personal agency while grappling with fear of fate and inevitability. Intergenerational connections of solidarity and trauma [between primarily cis women] and concern for future generations play significant roles in the narrative. Female solidarity is highlighted not only in the intergenerational aspect, but in the friendship(s) Helen forms, Sierra's wife's unflinching support, and Z's relationship with her AI. The character development is lovely and the actors convey emotion and embody their characters' strengths and fears well. Despite having only three main actors with a couple supporting roles, the cast feels larger; I especially loved how Helen did voices for her friends. The exploration of the 'ghosts' and their nature and interaction with the world is interesting. I was worried for several episodes that the story was veering towards bio-essentialism despite its critiques of eugenics because much of the story hinges on mostly cis women having a certain ability, but there are some brief mentions of trans women and nonbinary people having the ability and its cause not being as straightforward as at first glance. Still, I would have liked to see more exploration of that nuance in such a feminist-leaning story.
Mirrors is a masterpiece. Not sure how else to call it. All the stories tie together in the perfect hopeful, haunting, bittersweet, dystopic, time-weirdness mystery. Couldn't recommend this more!
A ghost story to science fiction bait-and-switch?? YES PLEASE! I love how this show refuses to be defined by genre -- it's also a time travel epic (sort of) AND has a wonderful character arc for an AI character (which I always love). The definition of a slow burn, Mirrors will hook you without you realising you've been hooked -- plus, it's a completed story, so it's bingeable!
An unsettling start, for sure. Enjoyable and short show!
Absolutely phenomenal, it's a story that starts slow but then it gets going and you will not be able to put it down.
