A fantastic work of fiction. Very bingeable, feels good to listen to. Calming in tone and subject. I love the framing, and I really appreciate the intro and outro details.
Despite the light-hearted premise, there's legitimately good advice and experiences that show why marginalized people often find they identify more with the monsters than humans in narratives.
I adore it, the narrator has a lovely voice, it's very calming and the voice acting is great. It's my new favourite podcast.
New eps of this show are a drop-everything-and-listen-right-now event as far as I’m concerned. I will never forget binging dozens of episodes on a long drive to visit my QP last summer. It was so fun and relaxing, perfect pacing and tone to keep me engaged without distracting me from whatever else I might be doing. The worldbuilding in this show is just absolutely phenomenal, also, and there is so much diverse and casual representation of people from all walks of life, queer identities, and various disabilities and mental health issues (including a shoutout to an uncommon disorder that I have, which was really respectful and I appreciated so much.) The creator takes special care with difficult topics to achieve a satisfying balance of humor and emotional catharsis, and overall a sense of community that I think many of us pine for in the real world. HUGELY recommend to anyone who loves radio/agony aunt style stories, and specifically to fans of WTNV.
Monstrous Agonies is so calming to listen to. It's a really wonderful bit of work in how it's set up the world - while we don't have a concrete narrative [like in a traditional book] that follows how one character sees a tiny portion, we get to have the Narrator, who sees a little bit of the whole world all the time. The world building itself is really phenomenal: how "creatures of the night" would experience problems that are both separate from and parallel to what marginalized communities face today. It's really well done!
Probably one of the funniest podcast i listened to. Very welll written and immersive. Highly recommended.
Soothing but also unsettling, this podcast actually offers some very good advice about staying true to thine ownself, cloaked in quirky monster stories. I felt personally called out by the LARP special.
This radio write-in/call-in show for the supernatural and the monstrous offers advice on relationships, career, self-image, and social etiquette. Everyone is welcome, whether they be a haunted board game or a swamp creature. I found this show to be cute, funny, and original.
Not only a clever idea executed well, but also genuinely good advice!
Narrator has a calming tone, the show feels very natural .. besides the fact that the characters are all fantastical creatures
Great podcast! A calming listen with a wonderful sense of humour
An agony column for 'creatures of the night'? What a brilliant concept! Monstrous Agonies manages to be oftentimes soothing, funny and heart-wrenching all in the space of an episode! It has swiftly become a favourite of mine and stands to stay that way.
No other audio drama makes me feel so good about myself. I listen to Monstrous Agonies and I can’t help but feel that everything is going to be okay in the world. The letters and the responses have made me both laugh, cry and re-evaluate what kind of person I want to be. The format of the show sounds like it would run the risk of becoming repetitive but the creator has found a way to balance fresh ideas and running jokes within each new episode and I have too many favourite letters to count! I don’t want it to end!
This is such a great podcast. I listen every night before bed. A soothing radio dj answers letters from her listeners in the monster community. It's a lot of fun and I really recommend it.
I've listened to this multiple times the primary voice actress has a wonderful voice
