Moonface is a gorgeous treatise on communication, on the assumptions we make about one another, on the shame of not knowing one's mother tongue or history, on chafing against being a stereotype, and on not putting our loved ones first. But most of all it is a wonderful tribute to the sacrifices of parents for their children.

Has all of the hallmarks of a terrific audio drama; great script, excellent story, great acting, and fully fleshed out characters.

In a medium where high-concept projects are often favored to take advantage of a smaller budget, sometimes the stories that stick out the most are those that are unflinchingly down-to-earth. The raw, complicated love and desire to be understood in a shared context portrayed here on both sides, is some of the most emotionally breathtaking storytelling I've had the pleasure of experiencing this year, and I suspect will hold true in the coming months. Everything is condensed down to portray, without pretense, the thoughts and movements and by extension lives of its characters; sound design that not only understands what kind of story is being told here, but how best to enrich that story via technical choices and what information to provide the audience. Clear your to-listen list. That's all I can say.

Moonface is an incredibly personal story told in an incredibly immersive fashion. It stands as a great example of what audio fiction can be to anyone who might be skeptical.

A story about communication, growing as a young adult, being a second generation immigrant in a culture you're not sure will accept you, and what parents are willing to do for their children. Tells an intimate story; the sound design amplifies the emotional intensity of scenes. The actors, especially for the main character and his mother, are great; the scenes between the two of them have a natural, authentic feeling behind them.

Moonface has been getting a ton of press lately, and rightly so. This is a great example of what audio dramas can do so well: tell specific, personal, immersive stories--especially ones that aren't well-represented in mainstream media. It really speaks to how well written this show is given how the story and characters are not just legible but deeply compelling, despite the fact that there's no narration and no introduction. Story structure, sound design, voice acting--everything is just really well done here. One of my favorite listens of 2019.

Definitely worth listening to, with engaging story, characters to root for, and great music. Paul is not that great at communicating and deciding for himself, but listening to him grow and find his own footing is great. I really liked the resolution but I feel like the episodes could be longer. YMMV, maybe that's because I listened to the whole podcast in one sitting. Definitely worth listening to!
