Tim Van Horn chats with North Carolina FC defender Akeem Ward, this week's featured guest.  He holds the distinction of being our third guest who played at Creighton University (listen to Richard Mulrooney & Ross Paule).

Ward is looking to make his mark in the USL Championship as a fullback.   After stints with DC United, Loudon United, and Birmingham Legion in 2019, Akeem is happy to be settling in with the club .  Known for his speed and his range up and down the pitch, he is looking to help Head Coach Dave Sarachan in what looks to be a toss up for Group G.

Akeem Ward talks about how the club navigated the league-wide shutdown (due to coronavirus), and how he believes the time off has made him an even better player.  He is not slow to praise team leadership and unity during those extraordinary times.  Tim got a surprising answer when he asked Akeem whether he did anything different or new while the shutdown took place.

It's yet another FA Cup for one Premier League mainstay.  The victory brings them the promise of European soccer in the 2020-21 season.

Speaking of Europe, Champions League knockout stages wrap up for the rest of the round of 16 this weekend.  Four of the eight teams have already punched their tickets to the quarter-finals.  

It's the same story for the Europa League.  Some familiar names have locked in a spot in the final eight.

MLS will have its Orlando tournament Final on Tuesday, August 11th.

The USL Championship continues its regular season with eight highly competitive groups.  This week's guest Akeem Ward and North Carolina FC visit Memphis 901 FC on Saturday, August 8.  Pete Pranica and our own Tim Van Horn will have the television call.  The match can be seen on ESPN+, ESPN Deportes & CW 30 in Memphis, Tennessee.
