She had a rough start in life surviving; scarlet fever, typhoid, and tuberculosis, illnesses that claimed the life of some of her siblings.
After her father died and her mother got sick Violet left school to get a job as a sea-stewardess. Here she began the career of a lifetime surviving 3 maritime disasters including the Titanic. She was aptly named "The Unsinkable Woman".
