RATING
I have been listening since late 2017. This is not only the longest running podcast of its kind, it is the very best author business podcast on the web. Bar none.Other podcasters talk about delivering value; this one actually does so. Every. Single. Time. Up-to-date, informative, in-depth, relevant, understandable and to the point. No one else even comes close to the standard of this podcast. Production values are also well above average, if that matters to you.By the way, I am as unbiased a reviewer as it is possible to find. Not a churchy type (don’t worry: they are not preachy, just out of the Jesus closet, so to speak). Don't know either Thomas Umstadt Jr. or the other guy (too lazy to look up his name). Have not read any of their books. Not looking for a shout out. Not even a stalker. No connection at all except that I listen to NMP and I cannot remain silent about how good this podcast is. I even made an account on this platform, just so I could leave a review. And I hate HATE making new accounts. So when a curmudgeon like me goes out of my way to post a review, it is because it is well deserved.*This is not to diss on others, but to save you time if you have a limited number of listening hours.* I listen to a lot of writing/author marketing podcasts, and I have checked out many more that I do not actively listen to (because they are a waste of time; even the ones that Thomas lists are mostly pretty meh. Sorry man, but you set the bar rather high.) No one, and certainly none of the big names, deliver concise information and expert insights the way this podcast does. (I kind of laugh when Thomas interviews other writing podcasters as guests. I mean, I understand why he does—marketing/cross-pollination--but none of them have better insights than he does, so it is a bit of absurdity.) I wrote a lengthy review (that’s right, this is the short version. But you are still reading my long-winded ruddy dissertation, aren’t you? Right, then. Deal.) explaining my criteria and why this podcast merits 5 stars in every single category. However this podchaser platform is sort of irritating, and the second I clicked outside this little popup text box, it lost all that work :( I was grumpy and pissed off, but I still came back and wrote another review. I did not even drink first. You’re welcome. (Oh yeah! This is me sober. More’s the pity.) Now go find some episodes that cover your biggest book marketing questions and get ready to take notes. If you only listen to one podcast on novel marketing—in fact, on the business of writing generally—it should be this one.
A comprehensive discourse on how to market books. A must-listen for all writers.
Really valuable insights for writers. For over a year, I’ve been listening to Thomas Umstattd Jr.’s “Novel Marketing” podcast. I enjoy how the host is direct and no-nonsense. As a writer, this podcast has given me great insights into book launch strategies, email campaigns, tips for working with virtual assistants, book pricing strategies, and more. Definitely five out of five stars.
This podcast consistently has ridiculously insightful tips and observations about marketing for writers.
I love how Thomas and his guests share everything authors need to know to not only market their books, but also what you need to know long before you start writing it. And then when you start your publishing journey you’ll find all the answers to the questions you have. I highly recommend you tune in and learn from Thomas and other authors who have been there done that. You won’t be disappointed!
The publishing world is packed with people selling their amazing, proven program that will make you a 6-figure author in no time. Unless your book is titled, "How to easily become a 6-figure author," the strategies rarely work. The first thing I noticed about the Novel Marketing Podcast was the scientific, data-driven approach Thomas Umstaddt takes. Every guru has strategies that worked for them, and they're sure will work for you too. Or maybe they have been shown to work for thousands of authors. But what good is that if they worked for 2000 out of the 2 million that tried it? Time and again, Umstaddt will provide specific numbers, percentages, and studies, and his promises come across as solidly realistic. He never promotes gimicky tricks. Always time tested, eithical marketing strategies. And it doesn't hurt that he's fun to listen to.
I first came across Thomas Umstattd Jr's excellent podcast a few months ago and I have literally been hoovering up everything he has to say about novel marketing ever since. I enrolled in his brilliant 'Book Launch Blueprint' online course and between this and the podcast, have learned so much invaluable information about how to give your book the best possible chance of succeeding. Thank you Thomas!
This podcast is filled with specific, actionable, current advice. From marketing strategies to platform building, this show is like a masters degree in the business side of writing.
Novel Marketing has taught me so much in one year that I would not have learned otherwise. I've self-published now in print, ebook, and audiobook, thanks to the advice from Thomas and Jim. They are such well-informed, giving teachers.
Thomas runs a great podcast. Full of useful facts and advice without the blather or misinformation that goes through our industry. However much I know, I always learn something unexpected here.
This is the best podcast for writers who want to become successful authors. Thomas does not offer a get-rich-scheme. He educates and inspires by exposing people to practical advice and real world tools.
If you are called to writing you must listen to this podcast. Thomas has experience in many avenues and is an excellent resource! It's loaded with tips, resources, and many interviews with successful authors. This podcast will transform your dream idea into a reality.
As someone fairly new to novel writing and marketing, this podcast is absolutely brilliant. There is so much useful information and revealing of important things that you didn't even know about. And Thomas Umstattd Jr is a fantastic host and the show is always exceptionally well produced. I like the mix of sessions with just Thomas and then others with a guest. So if you're starting out, my advice is to listen to some of these podcasts first to count the cost of becoming an author. It's not an easy road to take, but with Thomas at the helm the journey will be a lot easier.
Yes, Thomas Umstattd Jr is a genius. But he's also a gentleman. He could bury anyone with his intellect and wealth of knowledge, but he doesn't. Instead, he takes the ignorant and blind by the arm and says, "See here. Go this way."Mr. Umstattd is my favorite teacher of all time, and since I'm on the "thirty year plan," I hope to be learning from him for the rest of my life.Get this podcast!
Fantastic podcast with accessible yet detailed guides for marketing novels for self-publishing and trad published authors. Thomas is entertaining, relatable and informative. I listen to every episode and find it very engaging and reassuring that as an independent newbie author, I CAN market my own novel effectively.
