Might as well be titled Town of Mutilated Corpses. By the time the season one finale roles around, the listener has only been introduced to three characters who have survived demon slaughter or death-by-mine; and those three characters weren't developed enough for me to invest in. Was so disappointed after all of the glowing reviews. Just not for me I guess.
Hands down the best horror podcast- I couldn't put it down and I still have yet to find anything comparable.
Both incredibly well made and deeply unsettling. Old Gods is twined with the love and knowledge of people from the areas it takes place in, making it that much more of a nightmare as it hits home. Special mention goes to the narrator for how well their voice fits! Very good to listen to and puts a lot of emotion into the show.
I’ve never been sucked into anything so quickly and so thoroughly as OLD GODS in my life. This has been an amazing experience. I’m in withdraws.
I was out looking for something southern and spooky and this delivered way more than I thought possible. It's like someone wrote this story based off of exactly what I was looking for. It's amazing, spooky, well written, the voice acting is superb, and I love it so much.
Chilling stories in a southern setting. Very clear audio quality. The voice, despite sometimes saying rather gruesome things, is warm and soothing. And it may be because I spent my early years all along Tennessee, but it's comforting to listen to. Additionally, I appreciate their handling of period-appropriate racism in some settings, so far just briefly touching on it for accuracy but not glorifying it.
Absolutely amazing and everyone's voices are incredibly soothing. Really enjoyed this one!
An excellent horror podcast with the best intro song around.
Exquisitely atmospheric, and produced with the kind of craft and love I last experienced at an Amish deli stuck directly between Nashville and Lexington, eating an entire incredible loaf of sourdough in one sitting while surrounded by screaming, mating cicadas. My go-to listen when I’m homesick or need a creative spark to work on my own projects. God is dead and the creek is flooded, but boy if this ruin isn’t a treat to listen to.
Beautiful in it's creeping sorrow
This is by far my favorite, Steve Shell as a narrator and story teller is one of the BEST! The stories themselves are fascinating, and you find yourself immersed in their dark incredible universe among us.
Awesome production and great acting. Might be my favorite fiction show.
The podcast of all podcasts. Haven't come across better storytelling yet.
Too difficult for me to pay attention to.
An entrancing and dark journey into Appalachian folk tales and gothic horror. Wonderful stories that make the dark mountain come alive with fearsome power.
The exquisite narrative detail and worldbuilding is what makes me keep coming back to OGOA's Appalachia. Truly dark and horrible stories you love to shiver at.
Hands down the best audiodrama out there.
One of the best narrative horror audio dramas online today. Fantastic stories, brilliant voice acting, engaging creators. This should be at the top of every audio drama list!
This fiction podcast puts the lie to the widely held belief that single narrator shows are boring. Steve Shell, writer and narrator, has a wonderful voice that burrows down deep in your guts and sets its hook. This podcast sits at the pinnacle of the classic spooky storytelling tradition, but is elevated even further by the immersive soundscape and music. The language is lyrical and hypnotic. I can't say enough good things about Old Gods of Appalachia. Go listen.
