Do you have any idea how many people you actually encounter on any given day? It may be zero or it could be hundreds. Are you doing video calls? Did you go to a grocery store? Are you even noticing the people you live with?
I ran a company with 120 team members and my goal was to give just six compliments a day because I had seen people doing things that mattered.
I used six pennies as my tally check, and at the end of the day, the goal was to have moved six pennies from one pocket to the other. Having 120 people that I could potentially encounter, what I found was that I stopped focusing on finding the good.
Leading is about keeping the big picture in front of yourself and those on your team. Focus on the things that matter. Let your team members know they matter by acknowledging them - notice what they’ve done and how they’ve contributed. Keep your focus on what matters - your people and the delivery of service.
The challenge: give six compliments today to people at home, at work, or in the community. It sounds so easy… it takes a lot of practice!
