Press that play button! The Circadian ClockTells us when we're going to get our deepest sleep, when we're going to be the most alert, when we're going to be the most coordinated, when we will have the fastest reaction time, etc. This helps regulate our body's temperature & metabolism. Men's testosterone production is also organized around the circadian clock. Our Infradian RhythmThe infradian rhythm is only for people that have female biological parts, and/or people going through a menstrual cycle. It is literally linked to your cycle.Did you know the infradian rhythm creates a 25% change in your brain chemistry over the course of a month?!  In order to optimize your fluctuating metabolism, you must change what you eat and the intensities of your workout for optimal results. We all have our own unique female biochemistry! When you can better understand your cycle you can become happier & healthy as well as more productive & satisfied.Did you know people with female biochemistry need more sleep than men because they have a more complex brain? (Nap time anyone?) The four phases of the menstrual cycle are, the follicular phase (prepare phase), ovulatory phase (open up), luteal phase (work phase), and the menstrual phase (rest).Recommendations for each phase: Follicular phase - Eat sauerkraut daily- 30 minutes of cardio (3x a week)- Plan out your month- Research new conceptsOvulation phase: - Eat more leafy meals - Bump up your workout!- Socialize Luteal phase: - Eat cooked sweet potatoes daily - Schedule times for deep thought type of work - Make time for solo or partner date nights - Try yoga-something to connect mind and bodyMenstrual phase: - Eat 1/4 avocado daily- Take a 30-minute walk- Incorporate stretch/yoga to workouts  - SELF CARE!Get the book!"In the FLO" by Alisa VittiInformation was taken straight from the book itself!https://intheflobook.com/ Connect with Rachel!Instagram: @The_Rachel_MaineWebsite: https://linktr.ee/WellnessSexpertiseFacebook: Rachel MaineFacebook Group: Owning Your Sexual Self Email: therachelmaine@gmail.com
In this episode, Dr. Logan Levkoff and I talk all things regarding "Talking To Your Youth About Sex"! Dr. Logan Levkoff is an internationally recognized expert on sexuality, parenting, and relationships. For the last two decades, she has designed and implemented sexuality education programs at many NYC private and public schools as well as other organizations all around the country! With Logan, sex has been a conversation with her kids since birth, there was never a specific time for them to finally know. Other conversations they had as a family touched on language that gets used in media as well as how to have healthy relationships. There shouldn't be so much fear and pressure revolving around the topic of sex, these are learning opportunities. *Let things happen naturally*Advice For Parents:- Remember, there's no such thing as the 'perfect' conversation, it's okay not to know things. --- Listen; for example, "Tell me what safer sex means to you..." "Tell me what makes you think this..."              "It's a conversation, not a lecture." - No judgment- Don't overwhelm them. Sometimes the best option is lots of small conversations. - Dr. Logan Levkoff says pleasure is an important word to use with our children, talking about pleasure starts early on. Understanding your body,  that certain parts feel good and that they have the right to explore them is an important message to give to them.             "Pleasure can be both physical and emotional."*It's key for our youth to have outlets, spaces where they can talk about these topics.- Validate their feelings, wanting to connect with someone is okay. Their desires are valid. "Nothing deserves to fall into the category of 'Things we don't talk about'."*Our youth deserves answers to their questions!Connect with  Dr. Logan Levkoff!Twitter: @loganlevkoffInstagram: @loganlevkoffTikTok: @drloganlevkoffConnect with Rachel!Instagram: @The_Rachel_MaineWebsite: https://linktr.ee/WellnessSexpertiseFacebook: Rachel MaineFacebook Group: Owning Your Sexual Self Email: therachelmaine@gmail.com
You just found out you have herpes... now what? Your friend just told you they have herpes... now what? This episode explains it all! Today I am joined with Courtney Brame Founder & Podcast Host @honmychest.  Regarding STIs in general they are not something that happens overnight and the next day you'll see something occurring, STIs evolve over time. In fact, Most STIs don't show symptoms/signs right away. Genital herpes typically lives at the base of the spine, the virus lives in the nerves and then presents itself onto the skin. How to manage herpes outbreaks:-Nutrition & mindful eating-Movement (Try yoga!)-Stress management Advice:-"I think it's important for everybody to take the time to see how their own body is going to react to this" -Courtney Brame- Accept your diagnosis, start disclosing to family and friends when you are ready.-When disclosing to potential partners, communicate & explore compatibility/desires.-Have safe sex!-Find your community (Dating site for people who have herpes)Connect with Courtney BrameInstagram: @honmychestSomething Positive For Positive People Website: https://www.spfpp.org/*SPFPP Mission: Something Positive for Positive People is a 501c3 Non Profit organization that connects people who are struggling with their herpes diagnosis to mental health, community support, and education resources in order to help them navigate the stigma.Connect with Rachel!Instagram: @The_Rachel_MaineWebsite: https://linktr.ee/WellnessSexpertiseFacebook: Rachel MaineFacebook Group: Owning Your Sexual Self Email: therachelmaine@gmail.com
In this episode, I am joined by Irene Fehr to discuss how to avoid a sexless marriage, a topic that is so often brought up as being the "norm". Irene has been a sex & intimacy coach for the last 8 years and has helped hundreds of women and couples find sexual satisfaction. Libido is a person's overall sexual drive or desire for sexual activity. Painful sex & lost libido are two popular things that lead to a sexless marriage.Take a moment during this episode to ask yourself- Have you lost your desire? Are you having "friction sex"?In the beginning of a relationship, the couple can't keep their hands off each other, everything is new and exciting. Over time, the same kind of sex becomes boring. For example, one partner wants more variety but is scared to bring up her wants, so they hold back. In friction sex, you're only hurting yourself by not having your needs met. In this type of sex, talking about your wants can be scary. When you start to fall in love with someone you become attached, you experience a new passion but with that comes the fear of abandonment or fear of failure. What do we do when we're scared? We tend to play it safe; we don't ask for what we need. When we don't show up vulnerably which leads to a loss of connection. So how do we avoid this?Irene's Tips:- Connect verbally. Speak about your needs and desires often- what is or is not working in the relationship?- Connect sexually and non-sexual (sacred spaces) - Take risks! Learn to be vulnerable and you will benefit greatly with connection through emotion - Assume your partner wants to please you as much as you want to please themRepeat after me"I AM WORTH IT, I DESERVE FOR MY NEEDS TO BE MET".Connective sex is not just a way of having sex it is a way of life. Having your needs met is fundamental. Connective sex is a disciplined approach to creating intimacy. Remember...Being vulnerable and having fun sets your relationship up for the long term! You can work through any problem and overcome any obstacle in a vulnerable way with your partner!Connect with Irene Fehr! In today's episode, I am joined with Bryn Marhefka to talk about not settling for "fine"!Bryn is a sex, love, and relationship coach who fell in love with her own journey so much that she chose to help other women do the same!Let me start off by saying, “It's important to know who you are without a partner.”- "If you really want to test your relationship, go on a trip together"- You need to know who you are without somebody by your side constantly- You need a life outside your relationship to be able to make decisions for yourself. - Bryn says she needed to burn down the 'we garden' and figure out who she wasWho are you when you're not a wife?  Who are you when you're not a partner?- Having your own space is critical for your self love journey! What is "Unconscious sex"? In this case unconscious sex means not knowing how to please yourself, not knowing your desires, or how you want to be pleased. Singularly focused sex. - Educate yourself on sex!- Bryn and I encourage you to go to sex workshops, to explore things you’re curious about. Figure out what you like and follow your fire and passion!*Sidenote*: LUBE IS LIFEHow can you be your most authentic self?- Learn to relax in the comfort of who you are- Bryn says, "Show up messily in love, show up messily in sex, show up messily in vulnerability"*Ask yourself*: What is one thing I can do that will allow me to break through my mask, what am I hiding behind?Self-love tips!- Get quiet! Get away from the noise and look within yourself- Don't give your power away! - Any tool you use should be helping you to discover your own truth not telling you exactly what to do.- Give yourself space to be quiet, silence is okay!- Meditate- Listen to instrumental music- Move your body (moving is a good way to get into your body & be able to listen to your body's cues. Did you know March is surrogacy awareness month?Today I am joined with Alyssa Hudachek to talk about her journey as a surrogate while shedding light on this topic!Surrogates make parenthood an option for people who are unable to bear children or adopt a child. In Alyssa's case, she went through a surrogacy agency. An agency makes all the arrangements. The process can take a long time. Who Uses Surrogates?-Medical problems with your uterus-You had a hysterectomy that removed your uterus-Conditions that make pregnancy impossible or risky*Typically if you're a first-time surrogate you are going to be compensated around $45,000 although in different circumstances you could be compensated more.Being a surrogate is an important job!"If it's for you, it won't pass you by"Connect with Alyssa!Instagram: @prbyalyssahudachekFacebook: Alyssa HudachekAgency Alyssa went through: https://www.wmsurrogacy.com/#surrogacyjourneyConnect with Rachel!Instagram: @The_Rachel_MaineWebsite: https://linktr.ee/WellnessSexpertiseFacebook: Rachel MaineFacebook Group: Owning Your Sexual Self Email: therachelmaine@gmail.com
Your diet is the key to consistently great sex? Yes!For this episode, I am joined with Christine DeLozier who is an acupuncturist & herbalist in private practice where she specializes in sexual health for all orientations and identities. Christine helps her patients develop dietary habits that support their sexual goals. -What is acupuncture?Medical News Today says, "Acupuncture is a form of treatment that involves inserting very thin needles through a person’s skin at specific points on the body, to various depths."-What are the benefits of acupuncture? It can help relieve pain, and it is used for a wide range of other complaints.- What is "great sex"Physiologically, great sex is when our nerves are firing strong rapid impulses to and from our genitals. It's when our blood vessels are delivering adequate blood flow. "Pleasure, climax, arousal, lubrication; they're all dependent on blood flow".What we eat can affect how quickly our nerves carry signals to our genitals. What we eat can affect our sex hormones. Certain meals increase blood flow while other foods stiffen blood vessels! This is how our diet affects our sex life. "There are foods we can eat in the short term for great sex and there are foods we can eat in the long term for great sex". "One of the best things you can put in your body for sexual pleasure is leaves & greens." Greens promote optimum blood flow and can even repair blood vessels.Connect with Christine DeLozier!Grab Christine's Book- Diet for Better Sex Here! Practice Website- https://www.needleandherb.comPersonal Website- https://christinedelozier.comConnect with Rachel!Instagram: @The_Rachel_MaineWebsite: https://linktr.ee/WellnessSexpertiseFacebook: Rachel MaineFacebook Group: Owning Your Sexual Self Email: therachelmaine@gmail.com

The Relationship Board Meeting is something I stumbled across when I met Alexa Martinez last summer. This is a document she created to help individuals and couples map out what their week looks like in a way that leaves them feeling fulfilled by the end of it. As a sex coach herself, Alexa and her partner put their time and effort in to this in a way that is easy to digest and understand. If you don't already follow Alexa, she can be found on IG @thatsexchick. This episode we dive deep in to how to utilize a tool like this in your relationship- either with yourself of with a partner. From experience, I can say that at first this may feel awkward but I promise if you stick with it, it can be life changing. This covers everything from the weather, your cycle and next level pleasure rituals! You're in for a real treat here! Have you ever thought about freezing your eggs? I definitely have, especially being 32 and feeling very strongly that I don't want to have children. Still, in the back of your mind there is the thought, "What if I regret it later on in life". A few months ago, my friend Jordan mentioned going through fertility preservation and I knew right then I wanted to have her as a guest to speak about this. Well, you're all in for a real treat. What you may think is an "in and out" procedure is very much NOT. In this episode, Jordan shares the need to know information about fertility preservation as well as shares her personal journey and the things she never imagined that could have gone wrong. If you feel connected to this episode- please share and tag us then leave a review! Jordan can be found on Instagram at @JordanDnelle. When I first heard about Only Fans I wasn't quite sure what it was all about... then quarantine hit. With increased levels or stress and decrease levels of finances, where else was the world to turn to rather than intimacy, connection and sex? And with not being able to leave the house the only source was really the internet! Millions of people turned to Only Fans as a source of income and millions more as a source of entertainment. In this episode I interview Valerie Rocio, a professional women who also runs a successful only fans account on the side. Because well... why not? She will be the first to tell you, "Sex Work is REAL WORK!" Valerie states that this is an act of empowerment for her and women all over the world and should not be seen as shameful. While talking with my friend, Angela, last week, she mentioned that a huge part of her self care is putting her kids to bed and having an actual consistent bedtime. I was mind-blown at this and knew I needed to have her on the podcast. Not only is Angela a mom of three but she is also a school counselor so she sheds light from both ends of the spectrum. I hear so often from women that they don't have any time to themselves or time with their partner and then on the other hand they mention that their kids don't go to bed until 10/11pm. No wonder you feel exhausted and stressed out! In this episode we cover the following topics: - The importance of sleep and having a healthy sleep routine for the development of children as well as the importance for adults. - Tips for establishing a bedtime routine with your children. - Normalizing planning intimacy with your partner and working together to ensure this happens. The two books Angela recommends in the podcast are Untamed by Glennon Doyle and Baby Sleep Boss by Dana Obleman.
