Episode 149 : A-ha - Scoundrel Days (1986) Part 4

Can it be? Is it finally here? Yes, it is! This is the long-awaited conclusion to Brian and Sarah's discussion of a-ha's 1986 album, Scoundrel Days.

Track by Track, Continued
After two episodes in which they only discussed one track off the album, Brian and Sarah return to a more traditional format in this installment and cover the final three songs. One of the songs, "Maybe, Maybe," has an interesting history as both a b-side and as a single, but in an extremely limited release. And that's not the strangest bit of information shared in this episode. One item Sarah shares about "Maybe, Maybe" finds Brian notably stunned-- and not for the only time in this episode. Later on, a lyrics discussion leads, strangely, to a mention of the Peanuts comic strip, which even more strangely, leads to a mention of record producer Mark Saunders.

Extra Credit
For extra credit, Sarah and Brian talk about a book by Norwegian author Pål H. Christiansen which has ties to a-ha and this album in particular. The English translation of the title is The Scoundrel Days of Hobo Highbrow.

Final Review and Rating
Then it comes time for Brian and Sarah to give a final review of Scoundrel Days and assign a record adapter rating. Sarah goes first, and she gives the disclaimer up front that she's very out of practice with doing final reviews and ratings. She then proceeds to render Brian virtually speechless! However, he manages to compose himself and provides a very thoughtful and articulate review and final rating. But after this, will Brian and Sarah ever record together again?
