Philosophiraga: The Video Games and Philosophy Podcast

A Society, Culture and Philosophy podcast

Philosophiraga is an audio presentation in the Well-Red Mage family of content. Each episode, I look at a big idea from the history of philosophy and discuss how it relates to the world of video games. It's sort of like an introductory philosophy course mashed up with gaming culture, which (I like to think) makes it a bit more interesting. If you've already studied philosophy, you're unlikely to learn anything new from Philosophiraga... but I hope you might be able to enjoy listening anyway.

A trained legion of monkeys fiddling with audio equipment could not produce a philosophy and gaming podcast of this quality, no matter how many millions of years they worked at it!
This podcast covers an idea that many would think is easy, but would be terribly boring if attempted. Chris brings a philosophical topic and ties it into a video game in ways that make sense and keep the topics open for further discussion. His episode on Undertale intrigued me enough to finally pick it up, and it is now easily one of my favorite games that I've played. The length is perfect and he sounds relaxed and personable in his element(s). I'm normally not a fan of podcasts recorded by an individual person, but Chris makes me a believer while still questioning the nature of that belief. If you're a gamer who is willing to look just a little differently at your favorite (or soon to be favorite) games, cast Philosophiraga at your playlist.
Video games are such a powerful form of media! They give us the opportunity to basically live stories through a character's eyes, and that's incredible. Sadly, video games still often get the side-eye from idiot politicians and other non-gamer types who have no idea what they're talking about. It's hard to shake stereotypes... That's why brilliant podcasts like Philosophiraga (this needs to be an official spell in the next Final Fantasy game) are so freaking important! Chris utilizes a superbly strong voice to discuss some pretty deep gaming philosophy topics, along with a perfect dose of humor. Lots of bonus points for creating the wonderful music playing in the background and teaching me stuffs, too! Every university should offer a course called Philosophiraga, with Chris providing the material to professors.
