This is a fantastic podcast. It’s a subject that could feel a little daunting at first but the host, Stephen, is really good. He’s very natural, slightly self-deprecating and really makes you feel comfortable with explaining the subject. I’m only about 20 episodes in so far and Stephen has covered early Greek and Chinese philosophy, the people and their ideas. It’s the sort of thing I wish was taught more in schools as it helps people to judge things with perspective.I highly recommend everyone listening to this interesting and engaging podcast, it’ll help you view life with new eyes.
This podcast starts at the beginning. It develops a solid foundation of the origins of philosophy and builds a strong understanding of complex topics while remaining entertaining along the way. Each episode introduces interesting characters and give us an unbiased look at what these great minds of history thought and how they came to their opinions. If you want a large breadth introduction to many facets of philosophy this is the podcast for you.
This is the best podcast ever. I'm not a philosophy major but I am majorly interested in philosophy. I didn't know how much it really fed my brain until finding Philosophize This. Stephen West brakes this shit down so simply. He has never led me to feel board while listening and he is honestly funny too but you'll have to listen very closely for it because he doesn't waste any time.....it's philosophy, philosophy, philosophy, surprise.....humor, philosophy, philosophy, philosophy. I think he's the bomb and I can't say enough nice things about this podcast. It's fucking great!
I've listened to 137 episodes of Philosophize This! and it's easily my favorite podcast, ever. Incredibly well spoken, easily digested information, with amusing and helpful examples. With his no-nonsense show format and the absence of intrusive advertisements, it's basically the perfect podcast. My only complaint is that I can't clone this podcast several times so I have a version for every other interesting topic/genre.
Excellent, excellent, excellent! If you care for anything in the realm of philosophy and are looking for a well put together, easy to listen to and understand podcast, Stephen and Philosophize This are your go to. I cannot recommend this podcast highly enough!
Interesting, informative, educational.Stephen West is a witty and entertainment host of this fascinating subject.
West is at 100 plus episodes because he does a dang good job. The proof of quality is in the listenership. Over time he has won our trust by carefully running the neutral line, he never foists his own ideas onto a philosopher but strives to present things as he understands they would see it.5/5 thinker statues
This show is such a great resource AND is super enjoyable. Basically, it's everything you could possible need.
Stephen does a great job making even the most abstract or advanced concepts relatable and interesting, but occasionally forgets the lessons his own previous episodes have covered, only to start others on faulty premises, spoiling the entire episode. It's like a science textbook explaining the four states of matter, and then the following chapter stating that water, ice, steam, and fire are either a liquid, gas, or plasma.
Best philosophy podcast. Quick and to the point. Interesting topics on almost every episode. My favorite were the argument fallacy episodes and wish there were more of those.
Never have I learned so much in such a short time. I would encourage the listener to have a pen and paper handy if you are serious about your philosophy. You'll get a lot from this podcast to help you in your quest for knowledge.
Big fan of your episodes, Stephen - always been interested in philosophy and this is a great and accessible way to get into it!
At first i liked it, but then I began to notice that he is long winded, it takes him too long to make a point. Maybe he needs to prepare the transcript before the podcast is recorded. It needs more professional editing. its just not of high quality. He gets a lot of the points in history of philosophy , he tries to be thorough, but it is tedious to listen to.
Great to listen if you just want to hear philosophy and learn a thing or two.
Philosophical Awesomeness!!!!
My happiest days are when I get a notification on spotify for a new episode of Philosophize This! This show is what got me into podcasts. Thank you for all your time and hard work Stephen <3
It was the first podcast I ever listened to. Strangely, I've listened to maybe a hundred more since, and it's still the best by far. It's also the only one I'm sponsoring on Patreon. As soon as I finish an episode, I can't wait for the next. Stephen West is not only incredibly smart, he seems like a really nice guy too, and he's more funny than most comedians. This show simply changed my life, it has opened my eyes to the endless possible ways of looking at things. I can imagine, if you're in a depression, listening to this is better than seeing a psychologist. It made me want to study philosophy and even make a podcast of my own (but I stay away from his genre: it's nearly impossible to improve upon).
I really appreciate that West takes the time to make philosophy more accessible to everyone!
I love this podcast! Every time I see a new episode I get very excited to melt my brain and absorb and entire new world view. This podcast helps me to expand, grow, think and reflect. Thank you so much for all the work you put into the show Stephen.
