imageThis is the kick-off episode for the 2013 season of the Photography 121 podcast.

Imagine my delight when I asked Richard Cannon to be a special guest for the podcast (sometime this year, I silently hoped) and he said “Yes”.

As you listen to our conversation you will discover how his positive response matches his strategy for success. Better still he was available sooner than expected AND he arranged for us to meet in studio 9B, in Archway, north London. Thank you, Richard.

I had only met Richard once before when, earlier this year he was the headline speaker at the London SMUG meeting. I was not only fascinated by what he had to say but also by his work as a portrait photographer. You have probably seen much of it over the years in publications such as The Times, FHM, Marie Claire, Country Life and many, many more.

You will also recognise many of his subjects (see below for my challenge for you) .

Most of all I hope that you enjoy the stories behind his photographs that he shares during our conversation.

Richard is very keen to give back to our photography community (a philosophy I care about deeply) so I asked him about his past and future workshops too. Please see below for the link to his workshops.

I invite you to listen all the way to the end of this podcast because there are some real gems of insights, tips and practical ideas peppered throughout our conversation. How would you like to lose your photographic inhibitions I wonder?

Richard Cannon can be found online at his main websites which are:

www.cannonpictures.com
(this is well worth a prolonged visit to see his portfolio and project work - how many of the people in his portfolio do you recognise?)

www.photorudder.com
(for details of forthcoming workshops)

and you are invited to follow him on
twitter too:
https://twitter.com/cannonpictures

Richard also has some great examples of his work in the collection and archive of The National Portrait Gallery, please follow this link to see them:

Unfortunately, I was not able to photograph Richard myself, instead Luke Beresford kindly provided the portrait of Richard which you see at the top of this page. Luke is based in studio 9B and can also be found at www.lukeberesford.co.uk

Thank you for reading this and listening to the podcast. If you have not already done so please visit the iTunes page (google itunes Photography 121) and leave a comment and rating for this podcast.

Thank you
