Thanks for tuning in. With the holidays fast approaching and my speaking schedule sticking me with the busiest two months of the year, and the show due date falling on the first of the month, I am only able to deliver a truncated podcast this month. It will be shorter than usual but still contains lots of valuable content.

I’ll open with some photo news and then get right into an interview with fashion photographer and Olympus Visionary, Joe Edelman. (https://www.joeedelman.com/) Joe is one of the most creative photographers working today and if you take time to listen to the interview, and even more importantly, take time to check out his website and YouTube channel, I promise you that you will learn SOMETHING or at least be inspired.

I went a little long in the interview knowing it would comprise the bulk of today’s show so be sure to listen all the way through.

Next month I’ll return to our usual format.

And Now The Photo News

Olympus’s announced the OM-D E-M5 Mark III compact mirrorless camera which is a followup to the E-M5 Mark II. The new camera has many of the same features as the high-end OM-D E-M1 Mark II Olympus says the compact system size means that users can shoot for long periods of time in locations where tripods cannot be used ensuring no missed photo opportunities. The new camera features a 20.4-megapixel Live MOS Four Thirds sensor (with an ISO range of 200-25600). It is expected to ship in November at a retail price of $1199 US dollars.

The Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement (CASE) Act passed 410-6 in the U.S. House of Representatives on Oct. 22, reports Billboard. It now goes to the Senate for a vote before it can become law. If successful, the CASE Act will create a copyright claims board within the U.S. Copyright Office to rule on small claims infringement cases where damages would be capped at $15,000 per claim and $30,000 total.

PHOTOPLUS was held Oct 24-26 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York. There were no conference sessions at this year’s show and it felt smaller. But there were still roughly 200 exhibitors and attendance seemed robust and at least on par with last year, despite the smaller show. There was a new emphasis on video along with the usual still photography exhibitors.

Sony (which usually has a very large presence at PPE) decided not to attend this years’s Photo Plus Expo and instead, opted to hold its own competing event for Sony users, nearby.

DxO may have finally found a business model that could make it a major player in the editing space. On the heals of revitalizing and re-releasing the popular Nik Plugins, started shipping PhotoLab 3, a major upgrade to DxO’s advanced photo editing software.

With its completely redesigned HSL color adjustment feature, optimized Repair Tool, and brand-new Local Adjustments Masks Manager, DxO PhotoLab 3 offers an exceptional level of colorimetry control, making the photographer’s job easier than ever before.

Look for a review on the Picture Methods blog in the coming weeks.
