In terms of sales, the 90's were the ultimate cash cow years for the music industry. Since the demise of the cassingle, people were buying CD albums, and in record numbers. In the 1990's 14 rock albums were released that sold 8 million+ copies in the United States alone, and millions more were sold worldwide. Yep, the music business was on that money train that clearly was going to run forever. Or not. Either way it was a glorious time to be a rock fan, as rock music was in fact, not dead at the time. Not only was it alive, it was branching out into a ton of styles and hybrid-ing with latin, hip hop, country and good old fashioned heavy metal. To commemorate this time, the PCWTF crew has assembled a master list of the 14 biggest-selling rock albums of the decade, and Ben has recruited Orange County's Greatest Dad-Rock Band Of All Time, Il Destro featuring All Time Top Ten fan favorite, The Old Boy Himself, Ryan Blake. These lads and dads play your fave rock jams, with a decidedly 90's bent, and they know a thing or two about this time and place. With Ben's help, they put that list into the proper WTF order. See if some of your favorite albums made the list, and see if the team ranked em right. Gamers are a special breed. They're adventurous in spirit, determined in completionism and always out for the next mind-blowing game experience. And they're opinionated. Extremely opinionated. For Pop Culture Worst To First's first look at the wild and ever-expanding world of video games, your humble host will not be part of the team, just a moderator. The team to put this list in proper Worst To First order has the bonafide gaming credentials, meaning they didn't stop regularly playing video games in 1993, like Ben. Guests Raf Jordan, Chad Collins, Tim Ritenour and Michael Coleman are seasoned gaming veterans, having lived throughout the entire timeline of popular video games, and have kept up with the insane advancement in the medium that continues to this day. These guys were ready when they were asked to rank the 15 biggest-selling video game franchises in history, and they weren't about to pull any punches. Hopefully no feelings were hurt but either way we did get a fun conversation and a lot of laughs discussing the most popular game franchises of all time. Don't forget to check out the YouTube playlist for this episode, featuring some old school hilarity: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2Sj57_93sSek6703cty52OoDlBktc6Oc Raf's band Viserra can be checked out here: https://www.instagram.com/viserramusic/?hl=en Chad's acting career is chronicled over at Imdb: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1792864/ Coleman's podcast Tales Of The Extraordinary can be heard here: http://www.emptysea.net/tote/index.html
As part of this complete breakfast, the Pop Culture Worst To First podcast has been charged by the cereal gods with a mighty task. Bless their milk-soaked hearts, they want the following: for All Time Top Ten favorites Shannon Hurley, Joe Lavelle and Kate Lynne Bundy to help rank the most iconic and fabulous Breakfast Cereal Mascots from worst to first. Thankfully, Shannon, Joe and Kate were more than up for the challenge. The result is what is probably the funniest episode of PCWTF so far, and certainly the most ridiculous. All of your favorites are represented, from Kellogg's to General Mills. Also, you might find yourself getting a bit nostalgic and pining for a big ol' bowl of sugary goodness, endorsed by a cartoon maniac hell bent on keeping you coming back for more. Shannon's latest tuneage can be perused at her website: http://shannonhurley.com Joe Lavelle's Brandy Sidecar project is still available for your earholes: https://brandysidecar.bandcamp.com/releases For those unfamiliar with Kate's brand of nuttiness, check out her archived episode of ATTT with Shannon where they went crazy, Broadway-style: https://www.mixcloud.com/beneisen/episode-315-top-ten-broadway-musicals-1961-1990-wshannon-hurley-kate-lynne-bundy/ Don't forget the patented PCWTF YouTube playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2Sj57_93sSfbBzitK5-X_dWY4CkVoSER
There's a reason The Simpsons are known as America's First Family. The show and it's characters are a perfect microcosm of the good, the bad and the hilarious in all that America has to offer - a diverse bunch of misfits with varying degrees of dimwittedness. For PCWTF's first foray into the world of television, the Simpsons was the biggest no-brainer this side of Cletus The Slack-Jawed Yokel. For this very special episode, Ben has recruited a team of Simpsons super-geeks, who know Springfield inside and out. Nick, Dustin & Rory were handed a list of the most popular characters in the show's history, and our fearless heroes are charged with putting these folks in the proper WTF order. Quotes, impressions and more ridiculousness awaits. Here's the patented PCWTF YouTube playlist for this episode. Oscar season is upon us and all of Hollywood is buzzing with questions. What's going to happen? Who, if anyone will host the broadcast? Will Best Animated Short Film be awarded in the parking lot? Will the producers create a last minute award for Best Movie That Cardi B Liked? Who the hell is in charge of this thing and what is their deal? Anyway, we here at PCWTF are big fans of what is usually the most prestigious awards ceremony in entertainment, even if they get things loud wrong all the time. We thought it would be fun to take a look back at the Best Picture winners of the past 18 years and give them the ol Worst To First treatment. The Movie Crew was more than up for the task, as Matt Dinan, Jeff Victor and Emily Chiu helped dissect the Academy's choices and nitpick the everloving crap out of them, making the case for the best and worst of every pick since the year 2000. Of course like all things Oscars, the show ran long, as has this show description. Enjoy! The less said in this blurb the better. Suffice it to say this is episode 11 of Pop Culture Worst To First. It's about conspiracy theories. Gabe Scalone and Jacob Clarke were the guests. Happy Halloween and welcome all you fine fanatical folks to the premiere episode of Pop Culture Worst To First, the first official spin-off podcast from your pals at All Time Top Ten! The most feared of all monsters, classic or otherwise is the vampire, and the grandaddy of all vampires is the famous Count Dracula. This legendary character has been portrayed on film dozens of times over the years. Most of these would likely be best forgotten, and they certainly aren't noteworthy, which is the criteria needed to get on this week's list. For our brand new podcast, the format goes like this: For this episode, Ben assembles a team of cinematic horror freaks, namely Mr. Halloween himself Matt Dinan, now in his 7th consecutive year of bringing you horror fun; and a newcomer but no slouch to the genre, the co-host of the mighty Horror Movie Survival Guide Podcast, Julia Marchese. Matt, Julia and Ben, through painstaking debate, settled on what they consider to be the 13 most noteworthy Dracula movies. Going off this master list, the team uses teamwork to put our list together in the proper order, from Worst To First. Along the way, feelings are hurt, movies are made fun of and Renfields are ranked alongside our list of movies. Hope you enjoy our first go-around and trick or treat! Julia's podcast Horror Movie Survival Guide can be checked out here: https://horrormoviesurvivalguide.buzzsprout.com/104713 Matt's horror short "After The Flesh" will soon be appearing at a film festival near you. In the meantime check out more of his horror-tastic shorts and music videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6OnR9JyBR-B28KLU4edw-w Speaking of videos, every episode of PCWTF will come with a YouTube playlist. We here at GoodList Media never met a list we didn't like, and the list of Beatles #1 Hits reads like a 'what's what' of pop music brilliance. In the United States, The Beatles had an astounding 21 #1 hits in 7 years. They had even more in the UK. If you thought that PCWTF was above ranking anything Fab-Four-related, you don't know us very well. We (well, most of us) love (almost) all of these songs, and we've brought along 2 of the biggest Beatles fanatics we know to break down the list and rearrange it in the proper Worst To First order. Ryan and Summer Blake join the pod for a long and winding conversation about coming together, working it out and letting it be. Something tells me we nailed it. Hey guys, here's a little snippet of the first episode of PCWTF. Subscribe on iTunes and get ready for the official premiere October 29th!
The fictional hamlet of Pawnee, Indiana is home to some of the oddest oddballs in television history. Sure, the city itself may be a raccoon-infested dump but at least the residents are... colorful? Have heart, faithful Pawneeans, the irrepressible Leslie Knope is on the case, taking your town hall abuse with grace and humility. As Deputy Director Of The Parks & Recreation Department of Pawnee, Leslie's can-do spirit allows her to put up with, and make friends with her team of misfits at the Parks Department and surrounding environs. Who else could bring Ron, Ben, April, Andy, Tom, Donna, Chris, Ann, Jerry and Mark together as a team that had 7 seasons of wacky adventures together. Parks & Recreation was one of the funniest TV shows of the past decade, and the biggest reason is it's rich cast. Adam Sears & Diane Stroud are faithful Knopeheads and Swansonites, and they join PCWTF to not only rank our 11 main cast members, but they also take a deeper look into the secondary characters and pick out some of their faves. So many great characters, so many great quotes, so little time. Kick back and relive the fun from our favorite fictional midwestern paradise. SPORTS! You're damn right we like sports over here at PCWTF. Especially the drama, the pageantry and the extreme action of glorious NFL football. We're less than 2 weeks away from Super Bowl 53 and the teams are set. What isn't set is this debate: how do you rank the 12 quarterbacks that have led teams to multiple Super Bowl victories using our patented Worst To First formula? By bringing in some of the biggest football fans we know and having it out PCWTF style, that's how. We're excited to welcome ATTT favorites Tony Ross and Mike Axelsen along with newcomer Floyd Condor to this hard hitting episode about the greatest to ever play the game. Who is the goat and who is The GOAT? We have the definitive answers. 2018 was a wild ride, the kind that makes you laugh one minute and get sick in a bag the next. We at Pop Culture Worst To First figured since we're ranking everything under the sun, why not start off 2019 with a long loving look back at the year that was, and do our best to make sense of the biggest news stories of the year the only way we know how - by ranking them, from worst to first. Rick Torres and Charley T of LA's hardest hard rock party band Dirtycakes are in GoodList Studios for a conversation that runs the gamut from dark to hilarious, just like this week's topic does. We hope you dig this unconventional episode and do not worry, we'll be back to our old silliness next time. Say what you want about 2018, we can all agree that it happened, for better or worse. Listen to more Dirtycakes and find out where you can see them live by checking out their Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/dirtycakesband/ And don't forget PCWTF's patented YouTube playlist. Don't worry, we kept these clips mostly on the entertaining side: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2Sj57_93sSd4PJjrRAy2yb0tuX9BK7vx
When we told you PCWTF was going to rank everything under the sun worst to first, we meant it. For our first foray into the animal kingdom, we had no choice but to highlight our favorite furry feline friends and enter the magical world of Famous Fictional Cats. This episode's team has been knighted The Cat Crew, and it consists of some of the biggest cat fans known to man. Chrissy Olsen, Val Ferguson and Matt Ferguson are all certified cat owners and lifetime devotees to the feline species. Our master list has been debated and pored over to bring you as much variety as possible, and covers everything from the flash-in-the-pan cartoon stars to cats with hundreds of years of folklore behind them. Download episode 4 and curl up with your furry buddy, and if we missed one or two of your all time faves, try not to cough up a hairball about it. Cats forever!
