Do you remember that sense of disappointment when you failed at something as a kid? Maybe - but even though you didn’t always win, there was still a sense of accomplishment for having competed for fun. And today’s guest, Po Bronson, guarantees that you learned something from failing. Po is a successful novelist and narrative non-fiction writer, specializing in sports, youth, and technology. He firmly believes that sports are becoming too competitive with a higher price point, making them less accessible for both children and adults. The pressure to win and compete at higher levels is taking the fun out of sport, while teaching children that it’s not okay to fail. In this episode, we’re talking about how play impacts a child’s academic performance and why children need to learn that it’s okay to fail. Teaching our children these skills will better equip them to tackle the incredibly interesting problems that are facing our world. It takes people to create a substantial movement and we want them to know what they have to do to make lasting change. A huge difference between Gen X and Gen Z is the approach to technology. Po explains that older generations are fascinated by tech and are consistently eager to apply it to every situation out there. Whereas our younger generations, who grew up with all the latest gadgets, are less inclined to think they’re “cool” and more likely to go without. What’s your take on the current technology impacting every area of our lives? How do you teach your children that it’s okay to fail? What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!   In This Episode: How sports technology is impacting the field of sports Why the rising cost of sports is causing less people and children to play sport How play impacts educational performance Why you need people to create a movement Why you need to teach kids to fail and that failure is good for them How changes are made at an FDA level What Gen Z’s approach to fitness technology is Where we should focus our collective thinking in the future   Quotes: “We’re talking about the wrong problem, here. We have to personally, as adults, get comfortable with what is the story of our future.” (16:27) “The one thing that kids are super, super good at is spotting hypocrisy.” (18:05) “We don’t need to be successful, we need to be open to the opportunities. And failure opens us up to opportunities.” (19:53) “You will learn that the downside of publically losing doesn’t hurt you. It’s fine.” (22:04) “Our five-year plan is for every big company in sports, medicine, and food will be converging in healthcare.” (36:55) Links Find Po Bronson Online  Follow Po on Twitter Find IndieBio Online  Follow IndieBio on Facebook | Twitter   Check out the full episode page here Keep up to date with everything Powerful Conversations Follow Monica on LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram | Facebook
