Every day, when you see that lone employee walking into work, with a weary smile that shields a heavy truth, do you know what they are experiencing outside of work? We all agree that happy employees produce happy cultures, which in turn produce profitable companies. But do we have the full story, and therefore, the empathy, for those among us that societal and institutionalized oppressions have rendered perennially unhappy? If only we shared more stories that represent the truth of what is happening to our friends and co-workers. Perhaps the empathy created will launch a truly transparent, happy, and sustainably profitable workplace.

In this episode, I am honored to interview CEO Rel Dowdell, who is an American screenwriter, film director, film producer, and English/screenwriting educator. His first feature film, Train Ride, received substantial critical acclaim, and he has over the years been compared frequently with other socially conscious filmmakers such as John Singleton and Spike Lee. His latest film effort is a feature-length documentary entitled, Where's Daddy? which is currently available on all media outlets.

My Favorite Quotes from Rel Dowdell in this episode, (paraphrased):

“We need to break the narrative that black people are to be feared!”

“We need to provide a safe space for people to tell their stories!”

“We live in a society where people need to see things to believe it. Now, with cell phones and the internet, we can all see the truth and hear our stories in realtime!”
