This is an amazing and somewhat disturbing look at how the internet can lead even a regular person down the rabbit hole of radicalization.
This is the podcast we need in these insane times. A look at what the internet is doing to us and how it can change us. It's disturbing in all the right ways.
If you like serialized content and Reply All, this is the podcast for you. It's a fun dive that does a great job of encapsulating the internet's bizarre zeitgeist, which is a tough task.
Is this the best podcast of all time?? Maybe... Is it so bingeable that you already want more before it's over?? Yes! I'm sad that Rabbit Hole isn't running more episodes, but this is a binge-worthy Podcast if I've ever found one!! Awesome storytelling and such a compelling look at the internet of AI suggestions!
Really interesting dive into internet culture. Reveals how influential internet subculture can be, and how it got us to where we are now. Went into everything from PewDiePie to QAnon. Scary stuff. The only thing that kind of rubbed me the wrong way, was that, while they were mentioning how people part off this culture hate the mainstream media, it felt very much like that. Like old, out of touch "important" people trying to explain the internet to the masses.
An entertaining (if sometimes superficial) look at one of the larger questions of our time. It clearly comes from a specific worldview and that sometimes hampers its ability to go deeper into its topic or seek our different perspectives. The production is very good and I love the use of the "rabbit hole" feel in its sound design. The episodes also flow into each other very well. I'd love for this to become an ongoing series ala early Reply All, but I doubt that will happen since Andy Mills is no longer with NPR.
Honestly, this is one of the only Podcasts that was actually better than the hype. Very unique approach
A fantastic insight into how disinformation can radicalize lonely, unfulfilled people who are in search of themselves.A real eye-opener.
I recently listened to an audio book about Fake News written by a CIA agent... and it was not nearly as relevant as this podcast. Yes, certain people will undoubtedly charge the NYT with political bias but we are living in a time when the truth itself is moving exclusively to the left. If you are hellbent on believing any old conspiracy theory that comes down the pipes, you should probably listen to this podcast first. There's always another layer to the story. Keep asking questions instead of claiming to have all the answers.
