image Radio Book Tour this last month took a swing down south to visit the city of Asheville, North Carolina. Home of the author Thomas Wolfe, Carl Sandburg and the short story writer O’Henry.
One of our reasons to take the roadtrip was to meet Denise Kiernan the author of two New York Times Best Sellers,The Girls of Atomic City: The Untold Story of the Women Who Helped Win World War II, and
The Last Castle: The Epic Story of Love, Loss, and American Royalty in the Nation’s Largest Home

Kiernan has a great ability to humanize history and bring to the foreground the ordinary people who shaped the world. She is a first class researcher who tracks down stories in archives and
does painstaking oral history interviews. We enjoyed a splendid morning sitting in the back garden of her Asheville home amid the birdsong and flowers talking about her work and her methods.

We first talked about her move to Asheville.
