So we did it! We are now officially launched and we are driving the Radio Book Tour bus through a city near you. Our first stop this month is Baltimore. We will be visiting other cities not only in the US but around the world. Check out our podcast by clicking on the arrow below this blog entry.
We look forward to you climbing aboard and discovering along with us the relationship between writers and the places they live or have lived. We believe there is an intimate and often revealing connection between writers and place –revealing in two senses –helping us understand both the writer and the place itself in more depth than would be otherwise possible.
As T.S.Eliot memorably said in his poem Little Gidding,
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
Through the unknown, unremembered gate
When the last of earth left to discover
Is that which was the beginning;
At the source of the longest river
The voice of the hidden waterfall
And the children in the apple-tree
In the first preview show your co-hosts Laurence and Jessica (pictured above) preview our first three episodes focused around Baltimore and Baltimore writers.
We discuss Baltimore writer, Salon Editor and former crack dealer D Watkins’ incredible memoir, The Cook Up, preview the work of Baltimore native and The Wire writer, Rafael Alvarez and look ahead to contributions from others in the three part Baltimore series.
