I was unimpressed with the first episode that I listened to (#175, Last Night in Soho), because I felt that it was uninspired and lacked direction. But I listened to #156 (The Craft) and really, really enjoyed it. Hardly any more direction than Last Night in Soho, but the conversation was much more engaging. I also appreciated their approach to discussing race & racism in the episode about the Craft. White people discussing race can sometimes feel performative, surface level, or not offering the gravity the topic deserves - but I really appreciated that the hosts & guest explicitly discussed the racist bullying that Rochelle experiences, offering the situation the appropriate amount of condemnation that it deserves, while also offering some background & a (brief) exploration of the racism surrounding the movie's marketing & casting - all without getting too preachy about it. Very well done. But these episodes are way too long. Why is the podcast longer than the movie? Pls.
