Excellent. Top quality acting, story & production, 2nd to none. Love the humour too, it genuinely makes me smile. (Have also enjoyed the insults & banter, some I may use later)
Red ValleyCan there be a greater compliment than someone potentially using your insults in real life? Thank you so much for this review, made our day!
If you’re looking for a fresh side of self-awareness in your genre fare like I am definitely check out Red Valley! In an attempt to avoid spoilers we’ll just mention the buzzwords that had us hooked: “Conspiracy,” “Cryonic Preservation,” “Sonic the Hedgehog”. The vocal performances on the show - especially from Jonathan Williams as Warren and Alan Mandel as Gordon effortlessly match the dexterity of the dialogue which cuts the seemingly traditional Science Fiction jargon with hilarious off the cuff conversations about tv shows, video games, death metal, and the varying effectiveness of code names. Think The X Files by way of Edgar Wright. The soundscape for Red Valley also does a lot to place us in the world with these characters while steeping us in genre tropes that feel like a warm hug. Conversations in the rain, over telephones, intercoms, and audio logs all evoke the Sci-Fi genre just enough to allow us to unearth the the semantic layer underneath grandiose themes you think you’re familiar with. All in all Red Valley is a fast, evocative, and fun 6-episode season Sci-Fi show for avowed fans and skeptics of the genre.
The cast and story is spectacular. It's futuristic but feasible. I particularly love the snippets of random conversation which only prove to make you smile.
Red ValleyThanks so much for this wonderful review, so glad you enjoyed the show!
Like a Father John Misty song come to life, Red Valley is equally bleak and hilarious. This show expertly captures the landscape of questionable choices that human beings make when gazing into the unknown. The surprising thing about Red Valley is that amidst the fear and uncertainty, most of the characters are actually trying to do the right thing in their own way and it endears you to them in a way I found very compelling.
Brilliant, absolutely want more of this podcast! Love the story so far, well done team.
This is such a brilliantly-told story. Our narrator is charming, playful, and determined to figure out what exactly the Red Valley Seed Project is all about. Flew through half of their current eps in one drive, and already can’t wait for more to be released.
Red ValleyThanks so much for this lovely review! The next season is in production right now, can’t wait to get it out!
Red Valley is an excellent sci-fi/mystery podcast. The plot is engaging and the voice actors are top notch. I love the musical score, and the sound design is first rate. I'm looking forward to Season 2.
Red ValleyThanks so much! It means a lot to us to a review like this. Season 2 is written and in production, can’t wait to get it to you!
Season 1 Review:There are times when Red Valley will surprise you with its change of tone and subject matter. It is mostly a spec-fic satire, very British humor, very Douglas Adams, until suddenly it's weaving in moments of grotesque horror or family trauma. And while these tonal shifts might otherwise be off-putting or confusing, what holds Red Valley together is the well-crafted mystery, the high production values, and the deeply human portrayal of Warren and Gordon, and the other great cast. Often funny, often challenging.
One of my favorites in the past few years! The way the plot is slowly revealed over the course of the show is great and the pacing on it is exceptional. It's a neat mix of scientifically fascinating and morally terrifying, as well as the implications of the end product!Where the show really shines is both the characters and its humor. Both Warren Godby and Gordon Porlock are delightful characters to follow along with, sympathetic and really playing the 'ordinary guy that got thrown into a wild world' bit really well. The show's also one of the funniest that I've ever listened to - both the content of the lines and their delivery are just fantastic!
One of my very favorite mystery audiodramas! It comes on strong and keeps on going, combining found footage charm with the slow, slow burn of... we'll call it fridge horror. ;) The character development and strong sense of both comedic and horrific (horrifying?) timing are especially striking. Loved the first season, loving the second.
Red ValleyWhat an amazing review, thank you! And for the creator a slow burn drama about freezing people, it is criminal that I haven’t thought of ‘fridge horror’ before! We’ll have to use it going forward! Th…
It isn't often that you listen to an audio drama that checks all the boxes for a great horror/sci-fi with a very unexpected and super satisfying twist in the end. It's even more unexpected that said great horror drama makes you occasionally literally laugh out loud. Sound production, writing, and acting are all perfect.
Red ValleyThanks so much for this wonderful review! It means so much to us!
Honestly such an amazing podcast. To be honest, I've never really been a fan of any podcasts till Red valley. Instantly got hooked at how cool the characters are and how interesting the story is. binged it twice over the span of 3 days. Thank you Red valley for getting me hooked onto audio dramas. Can't wait for season 3. :)
Red ValleyWow! What a wonderful thing to read! I’m so glad you found us and that we might have helped you find some great other shows. Thank you for giving us a try!
Great music and storytelling. The whole series feels more real than many other independent shows. Good to find!
Red Valley is definitely up there as one of my favourite podcasts, and one of the reasons why is because it really holds up to repeat listenings (of which I've now done a few!) As the story takes you to different places, as the tones shift, repeat listenings show you just how close to the surface each of the twists really were all along- which makes it so rewarding to revisit! Alongside the excellent foreshadowing, I really enjoyed the top quality sound design, the utterly naturalistic acting by the cast, the dialogue, and the plot itself is captivating! The characters, their motivations, and their conflicts are absolutely fascinating, and they're coming together to tell a truly gripping plot! I can't wait to tune in to see what happens next!PS: this podcast is an absolutely stunning, perhaps even genre defining piece in the work I'd like to call Corporate Horror (but the tag for that doesn't exist yet)
Red ValleyWhat an incredible review! Thanks so much for sharing. Cannot wait to get the rest of Season 2 out there!
This show´s got it all! Humor, mystery and a very well written and acted dialoque. The puns are subtle, but funny and easy to recite! And of course, the very subject of hypersleep is reason enough to get intrigued!
Very intriguing. I enjoyed listening to this a great deal. Warren especially is very dear to me, and has incredible bipolar vibes.
I've never really enjoyed podcasts to be honest because most of the time I can't bring myself to stay focused on it easily. But Red Valley managed to capture my attention for longer than 2 hours (A record) I was really invested in it the whole time. The sound effects and general placement of sounds were so captivating and authentic. The voice acting was genuinely amazing and felt so real. The characters and characterization felt very well thought out and the plot was gripping!
Red ValleyIt really means a lot that you could get into the show! Thanks for taking the time to write such a kind review!
I loved this podcast! I listened to it all in one night! I could never quite guess what was going to happen next but I absolutely had to find out!
Red ValleyThis is amazing - all in one night! Thanks so much for this wonderful review!
Really fun premise, great sound design and voice acting, writing was a little awkward in places.I was enjoying it, but had to bail after episode 4. It veered suddenly from the advertised subject matter (institutional abuses of power, human experimentation, the good stuff) to the protag's mental health breakdown, family estrangement & 'onscreen' verbal abuse. I'm not up for that without better content warnings, & "themes of abuse" is both too vague about what kind of abuse, and doesn't cover the verbal abuse or mental breakdown, sorry. I hope the ending is fun!
Red ValleyThanks for the review. We’ve now updated our site with full content warnings and transcripts. The tonal change was intended to be an unexpected turn for the story but we appreciate how that might not…
I loved it from start to finish. All of the characters are so unique and interesting (and all really adeptly acted) which is what makes the podcast so engaging, plus the script is wonderfully written, such a great balance of humour, mystery and depth. From episode 1 I was completely invested in the storyline and was hooked on every word! I loved how, throughout the entire series, you are pulled in with different splashes of information and hints that leave you not knowing who to believe or trust at all. Incredible stuff!
