Relic Radio Sci-Fi (Old Time Radio) - The Golden Age of Radio (aka the old time radio era) was a time beginning in the 1920's with the birth of radio, and lasting through the 1950's when radio went from being the most popular home entertainment to being replaced by television. One of my favorite things about talk radio is how long its been going on. Even though talk radio has changed a lot in terms of how its distributed the idea that my great grandparents and I share this love for it over all these years fascinates me. Besides having unrivaled audio, and a great selection of impressively entertaining stories, the story gives us insight to what was most important to its listeners. This show connects us with that heritage and a piece of broadcasting history. I could probably write a few pages about radio's golden years but I skip to telling you about this podcast's mission to make them easy to listen to and enjoy, and giving brief background information on the series being featured. If you're confused by the name like I was, old time radio is the name of the medium. Relic Radio is a long time collector of old time radio (otr) who's decided to put public domain vintage audio shows into easy to access podcasts and streams. Apple Podcasts has 4.6 stars, and 454 ratings for the show. For the past 14 years the Relic Radio network has been producing daily content across eight different shows, all of a different genre. I really have enjoyed "The Horror," and "Thrillers" podcasts. Podchaser has 382 episodes just for this podcast alone never mind the Relic's others and new ones are released weekly on Mondays. Owltail's highest ranked episode according to listens is The Eleventh Plague by CBS Radio Mystery Theater. My favorite was Cold Equations by X Minus One (warning it will leave you NEEDING more). Script is super minimal consisting of just a short intro with the title and original release date followed by the content. That's it. Commercials are super rare. Voice actors are amazing and if you pay attention are actually some of Hollywood's best actors. Music can be intense and take some getting used to if you're not familiar with radio shows from this time. Just remember sound is all audio dramas have to convey what's going on and in the golden age they definitely used it. Trigger for intense music but other than that the shows are pretty clearly label as what they're about i.e suspense, thriller, etc. Similar Pods: Radio Drama Revival, Old Time Radio Westerns, and The Magnus ArchivesMore reviews on insta: themastercast, twitter: mastercastpods
