In this episode of the Roamin' The Empire podcast, we take a look at the Gallo-Roman site of Noviodunum, located among the present-day town of Jublains in the Mayenne department of Northern France. Not to be confused with a number of other settlements that bear the name. Among the intriguing features of the city are the so-called fortress and a uniquely designed theater. Also a discussion on the enigmatic dodecahedron, of which one is on display at the site museum.Don't forget to check out the blog post for maps, pictures, and logistics:Noviodunum Blog PostTheme music:Heavy Interlude by Kevin MacLeodLink: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3866-heavy-interludeLicense: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/roamintheempire)
This week's episode starts off with an update on a enigmatic Latin-Punic inscription mentioned a few weeks ago in the Sulcis episode. Then we dive into the site of Complutum, located near Madrid in the town of Alcalá de Henares. The remains here include an urban archaeological site that preserves elements of the forum area of the city, as well as an interesting private dwelling (or is it?) called the Casa de Hippolytus and an archaeological museum with a number of mosaics among its artifacts.Be sure to check the blog posts on Complutum for pictures and a map!Complutum Blog Post Part IComplutum Blog Post Part IITheme music:Heavy Interlude by Kevin MacLeodLink: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3866-heavy-interludeLicense: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/roamintheempire)
