The podcast that made me fall in love with podcasts. Season 1 will always have a place in my heart.
Great first season, very good second season. Insta-listen whenever they crop up.
This is the gateway podcast for so many people. I'd been listening to podcasts for many years when the hype for this one built up, and I enjoyed it just as much as everyone else who listened. The love for the show for most people ends after season 1's focus on Adnan Syed, but I'll defend both Season 2 and *especially* Season 3 as wholly interesting explorations of aspects of justice that I hadn't considered or researched before. Definitely start with Season 1 and enjoy that roller coaster...then give Season 2 a chance. If it's not your cup of tea, listen to Season 3 for sure!
a podcast essential. quintessential true crime / investigation journalism
The first season is every bit as good as the hype.
Even if I do not think the topic will interest me, when I start listening I get hooked quickly because the story telling is so compelling.
Excellent topics and story telling. Also I love Sarah Koenig.
One of the first and still one of the best
Very good podcast however… very frustrated by the court room series. In one episode they are obsessed with an officer saying “I could smell raw marijuana on his person” which the journalist implied was impossible, so much so they prefaced 2 other episodes with the sound bite about ‘smelling marijuana’ as an example of clear police corruption. In a later episode, the journalist makes a big deal about a defendant “wreaking of weed” from smoking it the night before. Just for the record you can 100% smell weed on someone’s person. You can smell it even if it was carried in someone’s pocket the day before.

The podcast that started me into the world of podcasts. A classic, must listen for true crime lovers.
It was nice to listen to the first podcast ever made! /sIn all seriousness, it would've been better if I listened to it at the peak of its popularity, but it was good anyway.
Genius! A must-listen.
1st season was great albeit biased, 2nd season was meh, but the 3rd was stellar.
Serial was the first podcast I ever listened to and many years later it's still one of my all-time favorites. Excellent narration, journalism, and production.
Best-produced podcasts and journalism endeavors in this medium. Easier to swallow if you consume it as a novel of sorts rather than a mystery to be solved.
One of the first podcasts I ever listened to - got me really interested in well-done True Crime reporting. KUDOS, SARAH!
Incredible first season, it was a landmark podcast for bringing the medium to the masses. The second was a massive let down, so much do that I struggled to listen to it all. Season 3 was very good and got the podcast back on track.
rating 5 stars for the first season
She clearly had an agenda from the ztart
