In this week's episode, I want to talk to you all about growing pains. These happen when we continue to level up in different areas of our lives, so if you have big goals and try to create change in your life and not settle, you're definitely going to experience them. And sometimes growing pains can feel really uncomfortable – even to the point where we might start thinking about quitting. So today, I'm going to go through how to handle leveling up and how to keep on going, especially when the growing gets tough.
When you continue to level up in different areas of your life, you can get to the point where you feel uncomfortable and think about quitting because you feel like you can't improve any further. We'll also look at how to handle things when growing gets hard, giving an example of my own marathon running journey while dealing with COVID, raising children, and running a business. The need to change habits, lean into your abilities and work ethic, and really want the goal are discussed and I finish up by sharing four steps you can take to level up successfully. As you will hear, growing pains are a fact of life for anyone who chooses not to settle. Listen in today to learn how to not only persevere, but to thrive as you journey through them.
ANNOUNCEMENT: I'm hosting a workshop called *Why are you unhappy at work?* With the hot topic being the "great resignation" many folks feel that if they are unhappy, they have to quit. I'm tired of this perspective, because there are other options. There are many reasons you might be unhappy at work — and the solution is rarely to just quit. (Sometimes it is, but I'd prefer you have a plan.) So, if you want to do a little work to discover why you are unhappy and get some solutions…join me by registering here: www.kellytravis.net/workshop
Also, I'm happy to announce that the She Doesn't Settle—The Experience is back on, and you can go to kellytravis.net/sds to learn more.
The Finer Details of This Episode:
Quotes:
"While striving for more success and reaching for your dreams is awesome, we have to be realistic about what happens as we get to that next level."
"There are incremental changes, and they feel even harder as you get closer to the top."
"What am I bringing with me as I move forward, and what do I need to ditch?"
"The road to that next level is really challenging, and it requires us to constantly change, which makes us uncomfortable. And it's why many people just stay where they're at. So they do the status quo."
"We have to become a different person to get different results."
"But if you believe that you can't keep going, that's going to derail you. If you do believe that you have the ability and you work hard, then you're going to be able to keep going."
"Each next level challenge is an opportunity to grow or to quit."
"Achieving big goals requires overcoming a lot of difficult levels of challenge and each demanding more mental strength than you currently have. So we have to cultivate that."
"If you don't really want the goal, then all of this is not going to work. And we have to just make sure we do that work to make sure that we actually want the thing."
"Honest failure is better than not trying at all, than just walking away."
"We have to combat those challenging voices in our head that tell us we're not good enough, quit while you're ahead, that type of thing."
"And one of the things that make us successful and moving forward through these scary growing pains is one day at a time, one step at a time."
"And suppose it's your career that you're looking to level up in. In that case, whether it's a promotion or speaking up in meetings or applying for a different job, changing industries, starting a business, all those require a different level, a different person, different habits, a different mindset. And that takes just staying calm and giving ourselves permission to do the little things."
"Having a diverse insight, diversity in our support and in the people that we surround ourselves with, gives us a lot of rich information and allows us to be empowered to look at life differently, look at our goals differently, the challenges that are in front of us, and how we prepare for them - all of it."
