It's weird to me that when reviewing the legacy of a show called "Sex and the City" the hosts chose to focus on the "rampant materialism" and didn't discuss female sexuality once. Hello? That was the point of the show!! It was an outlet for women to proudly express their desires, enjoyment of sexual freedom and share funny dating tribulations in a fun and safe way...and they succeeded!!! It allowed an entire generation to shed shame placed on us for enjoying sex and gave us strong female leads to look up to. I agree there could have been more queer or nonbinary stories. But no show is perfect. You seem to be judging it by modern standards, by 90s standards it was very forward thinking. No one said it was perfect. I have ADHD and the episode where Carrie dumps a guy because he's neurodiverse SUCKS. But they had an entire team of female writers sharing their real life dating stories so to say it was "run by a man and therefore for the male gaze" is weird. It was a show about sexually empowered women, made for sexually empowered women and I fucking loved it.
